bally 5500 buzz in speaker

  Its beginning to drive me crazier, I now have a buzz in the speaker of my proslot 5500. It doesnt appear to be the speaker itself, swapped out, or the pot, the sound dosent change at all with different levels of the volume. I havent changed anything recently either. Is there anything simple to check?

Not really, sounds like your amplifier IC or related components may be defective.

Call Larry if you can't replace the IC, I think I have the schematic section for the amplifier I could send you if you want to do it yourself.

I made it because I have fixed this problem in the past and a one sheet reference keeps the clutter off of my bench.

If you have a scope you may want to check the outputs of your power supply and look for any excessive ripple on the DC voltages.

That would mean one of the filter caps for that section is going bad.

Thanks for the help but that sounds a bit above my pay grade, Im a tinkerer at best, might have to replace the whole board and see. You know I have had issues with the power supply as anyone with a 5500/6000 does.......I wonder?

well I got back to the 5500 today. I figured I'd start with changing out the power supply as it had lost it's 12v out to the bill accepter a while back, well suprise suprise the buzz in the speaker is gone. Damn Bally power supplies.
