Question about temperature ...

Hello Everyone !! Newbie here and I have a question on a S2000 Red, White, and Blue machine. Will these units shut down (not totally) if the room temp gets to high?? I had mine on yesterday in the garage and it was working properly. I came back a couple of hours later and went to play it. Coins drop into machine but don't seem to register. If I shut it down, then restart it, it spits the quarters into the tray. I'll go out later and check it, but I thought I would get your opinions. Thanks to all !!!  Timm ......

It melts.
There is no overheat protection per se in a S2000 but they are made very robust to survive the casino environment .
I've seen many standard S2000s operational without the top cooling fan operating and everything inside covered with an inch of dust.
Like all electronics it is best to keep them cool and dry.
I live in Florida and like most of us I own way too many machines so some of them are in my garage which is dry but by no means cool. I can tell you for sure after about 7 years of use my machines in the garage have eaten replacement parts by at least 5 to 1 compared to the machines that operate in 68 degrees all of the time.

I'm assuming the unit doesn't have a bill validator? Can you post a photo of the machine? If it does, will it work with bills after sitting?
If it doesn't have a BV, I'd start with the coin comparator. Try replacing the sample quarter with cleaner/newer quarter. You can also adjust the CC's sensitivity - turn it to the left slightly (or all the way) and check the machine's operation then.

O.K., I went back to it in the morning when it was cool. Same thing. Lights up when powered up, but buttons don't light up and neither do "coin in" "credits" (LED lights) etc. It DOES have a bill validator. Bezel doesn't light up, and won't accept a bill.  ...I fiddled with it a little bit. I shut it down, held the reset button in and turned the power back on. It worked for about 5 or 6 pulls, then spazzed out again. Does anyone have any ideas??? Should I do a RAM clear??? Think the MB is bad?? I'm at a loss ......  It's an IGT S2000 Red,white, and blue round top Made in 1994    I'll get a pic or two later today if needed .....

If it was made in 1994 it's a S+ machine, not a S2000.  It sounds like the infamous power supply connector on the motherboard is your problem.

This is EXACTLY why I asked for a photo. It makes all the difference in troubleshooting. The S2000 is notorious for an issue like this, while the S plus does not!
oops got that backwards... reverse what I said! It's that connector pin in the S plus that gets burned commonly. I had too much coffee!

Well, not sure if that is it, but I checked all plugs. None were burnt, but a few seemed like they might be a little loose. The first thing I did was to pull the hopper out to get to MB and plug. It seems like it started working after I pulled the hopper out. Do you think a problem with the hopper could cause my problem??? It was also a good time to clean and vacuum out inside of cabinet. I also see where there was a mouse or packrat inside. Luckily, no damage except a few sunflower seeds left behind. Thanks for your help !!    Timm ....

I doubt the hopper is the cause of the problem.  It may have been a loose connector though.  Clean the pins up on the power connector with a pencil eraser and see how it does.
