ON THAT SUBJECT...
I think most people here know that I do Short Track Speed Skating - on ice. I took a nearly 7 year break and am now back to training.
I was at a public session last week and there was  woman that brought her son who looked to be about 11 or so. He was struggling on the ice and just wasn't having fun. His skates were obviously too big so I told her to switch them with a smaller size... and hockey skates too since they are usually a little sharper than figure skates.
They get back on the ice... he's skating better, but I can tell he's totally uninterested in this activity.
So I say to him: "What  - would you rather be home playing on your phone/iPad?"
His eyes LIGHT UP and he gives me a resounding YES!

So this is where we're at... and that explains why I see so many kids that look JUST like this cartoon kid... either fat or really skinny with ZERO developing muscle tone, and usually a "crookedy" cervical spine from staring down at screens all day long.

FUNNY cartoon but very true too!

And yes... here I am, last year at a competition. I'm in front. You can't see the skates but there's 17 inch razor sharp blades attached to my feet here!

Hmmmm  - I should start a thread on what we all look like... if anyone dares to submit a photo.  Might be kind of fun to see of the face fits the voice or the words we exchange.

This is awesome!
It is interesting how electronic devices are mostly utilitarian to many of us over 50 but to the new generation their devices are as important as their feet. It makes me sad to think how many know how to use an electronic device but cannot even imagine what is inside of it...or how you would approach drilling a safe open, or walk from Spain to Portugal, ice skate, fix a slot machine! You know, every day stuff to us!
