WTB Looking for CAP & CAPX chips for PE+ machine

Want to buy CAP & CAPX chips for a PE+ machine. I have programming files but no programmer.

Also, if anyone knows which programmer(s) are capable of programming the CAP & CAPX PROMs I would sure appreciate it. or better yet, have one for sale !!

Update: Programmer no longer required, as the cost of these are out of my price range.  Source for the programmed chips has been found.

Both the blank chips and a programmer capable of programming them are extremely difficult to find.  I have adapters for the CAPX chips that allow you to use a more modern and easily programmable 27C512 chip that would take solve your two CAPX needs, but I don't have CAP adapters.  PM if interested.

Thanks Tilt, I have one of your adapters that works great, but was hoping to put in a fixed CAPX on a board I'm passing along.

If anyone's interested, I found some AM27S29 on ebay: lots of 18 pieces for $25 including shipping.
Now to figure out what kind of programmer to look for??

While you are on this subject Tilt, would you mind explaining these chips a little bit?  If they are not UV erasable, are they erasable at all or are they a one-shot and done kind of deal?  I have sleeves of the ones attached in my picture and I don't know if they have any value beyond what they are labeled as. I have two programmers that I use for eeproms and one of them has half a dozen adapters, can be written if there is an adapter for this pin configuration? One of them can use an outside power source for proms that need higher voltage, I just don't know what it takes to write one of these.

If your looking for a particular Capx you might try reaching out to member BrianT he may have some for sale or trade.

He also has a great spreadsheet that maps what Cap/Capx that goes with each game kit but also what alternates will work.
I think I have about 45 games but am down to just about 7 necessary Cap/Capx's to fit the bill.

I have also used one of the CapX adapters and they work great. Albiet I am not sure where it came from. It may have been on a board that I bought third hand.

No, they're OTP (One Time Programmable) PROMs.  You buy them blank and can write to them one time, they can not be erased.  They have value to someone who may need that particular CAP/CAPX, but of no value as a reusable chip.

Good to know, thanks.  That programmer costs more than what most hobbyist's would want to pay for one though.  Cheaper to pay someone like you who has the right equipment to do it, especially for small (one or two) quantities.

I agree, and as a physical backup I have 24 drawers of CAPX chips I have been collecting for over 10 years if anyone needs one, or two, or more.
BTW the blanks go for over $10 each by now and it is a crap shoot to actually get a blank when one is ordered.

Sticker shock on the price of the programmer for sure...  I'll be sending Badbaud a shopping list & skipping the programmer!

CAPX1321 is a standard / general Poker color chip used with many different CG sets
CAPX2172 is for ACE$ Bonus games & games that require CG2325 for Best Bet mid hand pay games
CAPX2291 is for CG2291 which has custom The Orleans card backs
CAPX2403 is for an unknown poker set (CAPX2404 & CAPX2405 are for Princess Cruise sets... so maybe that?)

As far as I know there isn't a CAPX2240.  If you're looking for the color PROM to match the CG2240 set which is a multi poker 5-in-1 set, then you need CAPX2174.  All 5-in-1 multi poker sets will use CAPX2174 unless you're using a graphics set that has custom card backs like CG2294 (The Orleans) or CG2440 (MGM Grand Detroit)
