Printer communication failure

Hey guys first time dealing with a printer. Machine is a game king 044 board with bettorslots TITO. Where do I even start troubleshooting this problem?

HaHaHa. I don’t know why some of my photos come out upright and some are sideways. Maybe because posting from a phone?

The blue latch on the right-hand side of the printer, in your last photo, has to be up.

In your case, because your pictures are sideways, left.

Ok cool thanks. Would that cause the communication failure?

Flipped the blue lever still nothing. There are two buttons on the left hand side of the printer. One looks like it would feed the paper and the other has a scissors picture. Neither one does anything

Any lights on the printer near the scissors?
Is the printer plugged into the harness back to the backplane board?
Push the lever back down, pull out the paper, pull the lever back up then feed in the paper.
If it pulls in the paper, at least you know it has power going to it.


...and yes, the printer wouldn't work with the lever down...sometimes you'll get that message, depends on the machine.
Another reason why you can get a "com failure" message is a printer isn't "enabled" in the settings.

No lights on the printer. The wires as gas as I can tell are plugged in. There are some wires in the top box that are unplugged. However this machine also still has the players card thing in it so I don’t really know what needs to be plugged in. Thanks for all the help so far! Definitely a learning curve moving up from Bally EMs.

Have you ever seen this printer working at all?
I'm trying to get some history.

Try sliding out the printer body out of the bracket enclosure...maybe you're not able to see the LED lights.
It should be either green, amber, or red.

Have never seen it working. I’m the middle man on this deal of a friend in Texas buying this machine it of Las Vegas. It came from Station Casinos. Here are a some more sideways pictures for your pleasure.

Yes, under the MPU, there's a white 10-pin (2-rows of five pins) Molex connector on the left, that plugs into the backplane.
You need to test the rightmost pin on that white Molex connector that has a single black wire.
Two other pins you need to check, one that's red and another one that's orange.
Stick the red probe of your multimeter into back of the white Molex to touch the pin inside the housing.
The black probe of your multimeter can pretty much touch any metal part of the machine's cabinet.

Set your multimeter to like around 200 volts DC.
The pin with the orange wire should read around 25VDC.
The pin with the red wire should read around 13VDC.
The pin with that black wire should read around 6-7VDC
That black one is the most important one tho.....if the voltage is too low, the printer won't work.

Usually with your phone (I have an iPhone) you can just edit the orientation. Even if they show straight, flip 'em once and back and it should change the metadata on the file. I airdrop to my laptop, then post and they are always good. 
I fixed these, but you owe me $$$ for a neck massage!

Power supply is okay.
Still zero LEDs on the printer?
In Reply #13, I gave you a photo of the power Molex so you'd know which plug carried the power to the backplane board.
Right next to that, if you look closely, is the header for the "Netplex Printer"...you see that?
Is there anything plugged into yours?

Yes a Molex with 6 wires

Hello there, was dealing with one of these recently as well.

Looks like a Gen1, so be extra careful when disconnecting or connecting any printer cables. You cannot do it live, always shut off the machine first or it will ruin the interface board on the printer. (I learned this the hard way, but it's also noted in their manual)

Is there a label on the printer to confirm it's a Netplex printer?
PSA-66-001N = Netplex
PSA-66-ST = RS232

Are you able to do a Self Test?
"Press and hold the FEED button during power up or reset to run a self test. This self test prints a configuration ticket if the test passes successfully."

One thing you could also check is to make sure the ribbon cable between the printer and interface board is firmly seated on both sides.

Ribbon cable is seated properly. There are some unplugged connectors in the top box. Not sure if they are needed for the printer.
