Question regarding Bally Alpha 1/2 software

Greetings, I am fairly new to bally alpha and I have seen mechanical 5 reel games on an alpha 2/pro stepper cabinets. My question is does Alpha 2 OS have some kind of compatibility with game software from Alpha 1/s9000? This Quick Hit game for example I spotted in the wild some time ago. What I'm basically asking is that games originally released on Alpha 1 can run on Alpha 2 in terms of OS or do they use different software?

Alpha 2 OS is different, the game CF may be the same except on really old titles which would require a newer version of the game CF. In general if the game CF has the 7 digit alphanumeric number, it will work with an alpha 2 mpu with alpha 2 OS.  Games that have the ASG or AVG prefix may require the newer version that have the 7 digit alphanumeric number.  I say "may" because I have seen certain games like Roulette on the V32 run on alpha 2 os even though the prefix was AVG.

I think I may be grabbing onto this but I could be very VERY wrong so corrections are 100% appreciated. Games that are numbered with the digits you mentioned MAY work on Alpha 2 MPU & OS? Example:

"Quick Hit Wild Jackpot Triple Blazing 7's 5 Reel, ASGQHB701001-01" That theme is very common on Alpha 2 stepper cabinets.

If this isn't the case? I cannot seem to find the software CF anywhere.

The alpha 2 variant of that should be BAL_234779A (and assoc support files 80a and 82a).

To answer your question... YES! Alpha 1 games will work on Alpha 2. (Except Crystal Spider - which requires a certain/different bios). The older quick hit titles you see in casinos in an Alpha 2 reel is the Alpha 1 release. My local has Blazing 7s QH in an Alpha 2 and the screen is stretched for the wide screen. When that game came it out it was designed for a 15" square monitor.

When running an Alpha 1 game on Alpha 2 you need to configure the ideck manually.

One more, for the Mechanical Reel games do they use a different RCU Board or can I simply plug one in from an s9000?

I'm not sure on that. I know they did release an Alpha 2 only reel game called Double Dragon (yes another version) (and another theme of the same math model?)  which used multicolor back lit reels. So I'm not sure if the "multicolor" reels were a part of the Alpha 2 reels from the beginning or modified for just that game.

Maybe someone who has converted a reels version of Alpha 2 to a frankenstein firelink can chime in.

Hi Sirs and Ma'am, do you have information; install chip names, OS, BIOS game number of the files needed to install Bally Roulette on Alpha 2 OS. Much appreciated. I need it please.

If you’re trying to install the A1 V32 Roulette then you’ll need install flash 227207F. Any A2 OS should work.
