Bally e2240-29 !984 Slot machine
« on: July 03, 2024, 02:58:10 pm »
Hello Everyone
I am wondering if anyone has had this re-occuring problem where the machine plays then tilts with a code 50.
I beleive it signifies a door open condition.
I have tested the door switch with an ohm meter and it seems to work fine.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

The machine had a hinge switch and a door switch actuated by the lock cam. If your machine has that one, bypass it. Those two switches are in series and the cam switch usually is the culprit. For the switch on the hinge, it may need to be moved forward a bit. If the error returns after those steps, check the other end of the switch wires and their connectors. They should feed back to connector J3 on the I/O board on pin 3.

Hi slcjeeper
When you mentioned disable the cam switch, did you mean short it across the terminals or just take it out of the equation by removing its screws?
Thanks
Frank

Remove the screws, cut the wires off of the switch, strip the ends and wire nut together. Toss the switch and cam.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Remove the switch from the equation all together.  As Badbaud mentioned, simply cut it out and connect the wires together.

Jump the door switch so that it is a closed circuit and play the machine with the door open. The 50 should clear after the first game played. If it does. Does it come back?

Thank you
After resetting the game, I heard a click like a relay solenoid making conact.
I played a few games then the code 31 popped up

Inspect the path coins take when leaving the hopper. Make sure it is clean and that the roller the coins pass under rolls smooth. Also make sure the roller arm isn't sticking. I would also verify the gap on the coin counter contacts. Enter the test menu and perform the payout test and watch what is happening.

Thank you again for responding
I am new to slot machines and dont have any kind of manual so I dont know where the coin counter switches are nor how to go into test mode
Sorry for not knowing how to do these things
If there is a manual online that would help me that would be great
Thanks again
Frank

Not a problem. Send me an email at Josephamarquez@gmail.com and I’ll send you a link to download a manual. It will have most everything you need to find your way around the machine, including trouble codes and internal menu access instructions. Once you have that we can better guide you through troubleshooting the machine.

Hi Joseph
Thanks for the manual
I went through all of the tests and they seemed normal
The machine is working now, but every once in a while it doesnt register the first coin and I have to put in a second one to be able to play the machine
What area should I be looking at in particular?
I looked for the coin register switches in the manual and couldnt see them or is that not the issue?
Thanks
Frank

Frank, does the coin get returned to you via the coin tray or does the machine take the coin without giving a credit?

Hi Joseph
Thanks again for the manual. It is pretty amazing.
No the coin sounds like it goes into the hopper, but does not register

You’re welcome! Since the coin is making it to the hopper, check the coin-in switch for proper adjustment. Just below the coin mech is a switch with a small metal wire. Be sure the wire is moving through the curved slot behind it. This insures coins can’t pass behind the wire. Next, if the wire sits too low from the start, there may not be enough travel to engage the switch as the coin passes by. Loosen the switch and rotate it up slightly. This will cause the coin to engage the switch sooner and also allow more travel by the wire to engage the switch and credit the machine. Also check the solder joints of the wires. If after that coins still don’t credit, you may have a failing switch. Let us know what you find.

Hi Joe
Thank you
I believe it is the coin register switch wire
I will continue by trial and error to adjust and let you know
Frank
