IGT G23 TITO Problem
« on: August 04, 2024, 09:02:49 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I have a G23 with 'Lil Lady installed on it. Got it about 2 months ago.  There is a TITO board installed.  Was working ok but then stopped adding credits with the service button.  Figured I would start with swapping out the TITO with a new one.  It worked with the new board a couple weeks and no more credits again.  What else can I check?  The TITO board has a slow flashing red LED that never seems to flash fast (sending data).  New to working on slots but learning.

Any help is appreciated!

Bob

Does the service button still light up when pressed?  If the Tito worked before it generally won't just fail.

I had one like that where from the start it wouldn't add credits but took tickets and printed them fine.  I have several machines with Tito, so tickets printed on any of them are accepted in any of the others.

After trying to fix the Tito for days with nothing, finally pulled the service button out and did a meter cont test.   Tada!  Even when pressed it wasn't making contact to close the connection when pressed.   Nothing to do with the Tito card.
Sprayed the inside of the switch with electronics cleaner spray, checked cont again with a meter and then it was making contact when pressed.

Plugged the switch back in and then it added credits, good to go.  Just a dirty momentary contact switch was the problem.

Yeah I tried that, I contacted the place I got it from and they are sending a video of things to check.  And OfCourse, it started working this morning. I don't think its the Tito board.  The switch doesn't light up when its having issues.  I don't believe it's the switch but will check it out.  I'm having other troubles with the Tito, the BV wont take the tickets it prints but other machines will. Also seems to be an issue after booting, if its going to have an  issue. And to think I bought these slots to relax!!!!

If the Service button doesn't light up when pressed, the switch it isn't making contact.  So if electronics cleaner didn't fix it, then you'll need to replace the switch itself.  Fairly inexpensive but just needs to be the right one.

Also your Tito is probably working fine, but you have the wrong DBV head in your machine.  It's an upstacker on AVP's, with the cash can on top unlike many other machines, the yellow head on the DBV should be labeled as model sc6612U

If it isn't that model, it's for a downstacker.    Easy test to verify, as it will accept tickets it prints if you insert them in the DBV face down so it can read them.
Regular bills work because they are two sided.  lol    If you're ok with putting them in upside down, that should work.

If you do want the proper DBV head, you can get one in the classifieds section for $50 shipped.  Simple swap of the yellow head, and then it will accept Tito tickets when inserted face up.

I sent a guy named Carlos a video about the problem on YouTube,  the video was too large for the phone.

If it prints tickets, the Tito is hooked up right.  If it wasn't, it wouldn't print a ticket.  And if the DBV will take a $1 bill for example, then the DBV is good too.

On the machine you printed the ticket on, or any machine that has a Tito that prints tickets but doesn't accept them, have you tried putting the tickets in face down?  If it then takes it, the DBV head is the wrong kind where the sensors are just facing the wrong direction.  It will still work, you just have to put tickets in upside down unless you get a DBV head made for an upstacking DBV.  They look the same but have sensors on the opposide side inside the head.

And on any machines that print but don't accept tickets, do you have ticket validation set to "system"?  If set to anything else it will print, but not accept tickets.

If they don't take tickets face up or down, will they accept a $1 bill?  They should, if they don't something isn't right with the DBV.

As long as the service button light turns on and off on the button when pressed, it's making contact and should add credits, and if it does, then settings are good (legacy bonusing is enabled).  But if it stops lighting up and turning off when pressed, that isn't the Tito, the switch on the service button is no longer making contact, so it won't trigger adding credits.  The light is triggered to turn on or off whenever the machine detects contact on the button switch.  And the Tito also adds credits when that same contact is made on the service button.

G20's and G23's are notorious for issues with TITO.  Sometimes they stop working, then they work again, even without rebooting.  Some of us believe the serial ports are flaky.  Using a known working RS-323 daughter card on an open port will usually fix it unless there's something bad with spare port.

Haven’t had that problem yet….  But good to know!

Only one of my AVPs has onboard RS232, the other two have RS232 Daughtercards.
And I always keep a spare.  👍

Online slot part shops like get-t.com or other reputable ones.  But usually charge the most.

Other members might have them, post a WTB in the Classifieds.

Usually they are available on ebay at any given time.  :)

The listing below has the pic, part number, and is available.  Probably the best price unless another NLG member has them available for sale.

What do these daughter boards do?  Are they a separate input method?   Remember I'm new at this and, thank you!!!

They are for connecting Fiber optic cards, Progressive Cards, and RS232 cards.

Not all AVP backplanes have built in fiber ports and an RS232 port.

I "believe" they are on the G20/G23 "v2" boards.  An RS232 port is built in and are marked as COM1 which you connected the Tito card to on your G23.

But there isn't an RS232 built in on the v1 boards.   But all G20/G23 boards have expansion COM ports.  Whether they have built in RS232 or not.

Since you have a built in RS232 port and it's questionable.  You can plug an RS232 daughtercard into any one of the COM2, COM3, or COM4 ports.   No different than a PC that has a built in network card but it's junk, and plugging in a better, faster one into the PCI expansion slot.  Both Network interfaces will still be there as you can't remove a network interface that's built on the motherboard, but you only use the better network card you plugged into the expansion port.  Same concept.

So if you have an RS232 daughtercard, you can plug in to COM2-COM4 ports, select the Tito settings to be on on COM2-COM4, wherever you plugged in the daughtercard to, instead of COM1 which is the built in RS232 port.  And you plug your Tito card plug into the connector on the RS232 daughtercard and NOT directly to the one that's on the backplane as you have it now.  It's the same connector, but it's a seperate card and not built in.

In the pic the top marked square is where the built in RS232 plug is (you're using that now).  In the lower marked square are the three COM port connectors which you can plug a fiber/progressive/RS232 daughtercard into, and then you plug your Tito RS232 plug into the identical port on the daughtercard, INSTEAD of the built in RS232 plug on the board itself.  It's a dedicated RS232 card so if there are issues with your onboard RS232 port, this will resolve the problem by using an add in card to connect the RS232 connector to from the Tito instead of using the built in RS232 plug.

Ok, I got it now.   I bought the daughter cards off Ebay.  I know about some of the "built-in" components on motherboards not working out so well.  There's a learning and purchasing curve to slots.  Thanks for all the help!!!!!

Hope it takes care of it.

Just plug the card into say COM2,plug the Tito into the daughtercard, and just move the protocol settings for RS232 from COM1 to COM2.  👍
