Bally Monte Carlo 117 underpay one coin on higher payouts 50+
« on: August 13, 2024, 01:28:29 pm »

Hi :)

I still have some problems with underpay on the pays of 50 and above, I have tried to find the problem and checked the outboard wipers finger (50) and it leave just before it reach 50 like I think it should but then it stops on 49 coins. Is there any adjustments or something on the CO ?

Yes, there’s a Lo-tech adjustment.

Carefully bend the contact fingers back in to the correct position.

Also, check for lubricant and that the armature isn’t bent.

This problem arises when removing the unit.
Pressure is accidentally applied to these exposed contacts during removal and or replacement.

Thanks for your reply 🤗

The armature, do you mean the contact disc? I have checked the contact disc and it looks good, should the finger stay/ stop on the co when it pay out 50

What finger did you mean?

I should have said armature/carriage. Looks somewhat like a slingshot.
It’s the apparatus that slides on 3 shafts held on by E clips/snap rings.

Mention it because sometimes it gets bent at the furthest point closest to the front of the machine.
Causing it to stop.

But this is probably not related to the short pay.
Most likely the contracts need a fine adjustment back by bending.
This can be accomplished by adding a slight more of an arc to the fingers/blades.

Ok now I understand what you meant and I think it looks ok and all the fingers look good but it’s probably a very small adjustment that’s needed.  I still have a feeling it has something to do with the co coin over but I’m not sure of course.

If I understand the co correctly it will continue the payout when the outboard wiper finger leaves the “50" payout right and still have contact with the co  until it reach the right payout?

Now It stops immediately when the outboard wiper no longer have contact with the higher payout and it also have no contact with the co..

Thanks a lot
for your help 🤗

As I mentioned this is a fine adjustment.

Unit will stepped up 50 times and powers off when contacts run off the receiver strips.
In turn the hopper motor loses power via the payout relay.
I believe this is the sequence it follows, but could very a little.

CO = carry over, and you have it right.  The outboard wiper should step off the 50 trace a few steps before 50, and the pay completes via the main wipers on the CO trace until they step off CO.

in your case, you have two sets of main wipers connected together on the hub of the spiral cam, and it's the 12:00 set at reset that should be completing the pay.

you'll need to remove the outboard carriage and spiral cam to see what is going on.  Clean the traces and make sure the wiper contacts are more-or-less planar - and especially verify the ones connecting the F trace to the CO trace are good.

I guess you could also clip an ohmeter to F and CO and see what happens when you manually step the unit.  They shouldn't be connected for a while, then connected together until step 50.

if the CO trace or F trace is damaged (burnt ends or pitting), you're kinda in trouble and need to fix it or source another payout disc.  Pays will end when a good connection between F and the CO trace is lost.

other possible cause is the CO trace is not getting energized.  It normally connects to a SPDT payout relay switch and on a typical game it's wires 60-1 connecting to 98-5 when the payout relay is energized.  Could be the switch (or plug connection if there is one).

if you can get a meter clipped on, you could verify the CO trace has 50V (other probe on orange wire 70) when the payout relay is energized.

if you do take off the wipers and spiral cam, please post a pic of the payout disc.  I don't have a blueprint for that one.

note if someone adjusted the outboard wiper positions to try and complete the pay thru those, you'll never get it to work reliably.  Slop in the carriage and the small amount the outboard wipers move each step makes it extremely unlikely you could get the outboard wiper stepping off the pay trace at exactly the right step every time, and eventually arcing would burn the trace end and you'd always get short pays.  That's why the CO trace design exists :-)

Hi wolftalk!

This really make sense and I pretty sure the problem is the co so I will look at it when I’m back from vacation next week!

Thanks a lot for your very good explanation! 🙏🤗

I did like you wrote and I have been working on the hopper for a couple of days and now it seems like it working and paying out correct on higher payouts too. I ended up adjusting the disc by loosen the two screws and turned it I bit as shown on the picture and now I have been playing on the machine for a while and hopefully it will stay like this! 🤗

huh ... usually when the disc needs twisting a little to get the wipers to step off the pay traces (including CO) at the right step, you have a +/-1 payout problem on all pays.

oh well, glad ya got it sorted, and thanks for posting the picture of the disc.

It was leaving the co on step 51 and not 50 as it should so that’s why I found out that I needed to twist it but just a tiny bit since the lower payout was correct.
