Bally Alpha button panel problems

I have a Bally Alpha v32 running Cash Spin with a 8 button panel. The 4th of the 5 play buttons stays lit. Buttons 1 and 5 work properly. They go off when game is in play and come on after game stops. Buttons 2 and 3 don't light at all. All the button switches work properly. Ive tested all lights. They're all good. The harness is good. Ive changed the entire panel and get the same problem. Ive tried every button panel configuration. All i can assume is the backplane. Any suggestions

Yeah, I'm with backplane, if you have already discarded the harness.  If you run the diagnostic on the buttons from the menu, do the lights also not work correctly?

found it. some work some don't. I plugged a known working panel in and i got the same results

I had a button staying lit issue and it was the MPU. I tried a different backplane, didn't resolve.

i did all that. even changed the back plane. still the same. i got a feeling its the MPU
