WTB WMS 40x io and mpu

I have a WMS 40x machine that is having issues.  I've replaced the power supply and didn't change my issue so I'd like to try a io board as well as the mpu.  Backplane would be excellent to if I can find one.

Anyone have a known good set for sale?

You replaced the power supply and now want to replace the cpu and i/o board   If you replace both and it still doesn't  solve your issue; then what are you going to replace next ? Perhaps take a few pics and post the issue you are having. Just a suggestion.

Yup I replaced the factory power supply with an ATX and the was no improvement. 

I bought the machine non working.  The previous owner said he'd owned it for a few years before the mpu battery went dead.  He replaced it as tried doing a clear but the machine wouldn't respond.

The 5 LEDs are lit on the io board indicating all the power is there but the error led is lit also.  I've replaced both U2 and u3 on the mpu as well as tried my own clear chip but there is no progress.

I fear the previous owner may have hot swapped one of the boards.  As it is now with my clear chip in I get no 'bong' and there is nothing on the displays.  When I replace the clear chip with u3 I get one 'bong' but no other life.  In both instances all power LEDs are lit including the error led.

Did you check to make sure there are no bent pins on the back of the boards where the CPU and IO board plug in to the backplane? Check the eproms on the board to make sure they are all seated correctly. Perhaps even remove and then reinstall each one. Is this a dotmation or non-dotmation machine?

Thanks tollguy.  I did install new U2 and u3 just to be sure something didn't get zapped by the previous owner installing them backwards.  The directions he had with the clear chip are a bit confusing and mentions U2 as well as u3 as the eprom to replace with the clear. 

I did go through the individual eproms that could be removed as reseated them.

I do not see any bent pins in either the mpu or io board.  I wished it were something like that. 

This is a non dotmation machine.  Everything else looks to be in order.

I did disconnect the bv, coin comparator and coin optics as well as the displays just incase WMS were similar to s2000 machines in which sometimes when one of the devices go bad it causes crazy errors.  No improvement unfortunately.

I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of doing the ATX power supply conversion. But that's just me. I would double check all of your connections when you did the conversion on the power supply as the left that fail LED being lit indicates a bad power supply. Here is a link to another member's pretty throw description of what you would need to do. Perhaps look it over and just double-check all of your wires. After that I suppose you could try a CPU and IO board...https://
