Sega Diamond Slot Machine.
« on: November 25, 2024, 09:42:39 am »
A friend of mine got a Sega Diamond slot.  The coin in is causing jams.  Anybody has any experience with these.

Can you post a photo showing the escalator? That's a likely area to start but I need to see the spacing the coins. And it would be helpful if he could the mechanism out and get a photo of the coin head and coin drop area.

I'll drive over sometime and get more photos and videos of the mech.

I just noticed the photo of the back side of the escalator! I guess it just didn't load at first when I was reading.
I see a nickel that, I don't think should be sitting there. Those escalators are super easy to remove. It might just be gummed up. Make sure he doesn't EVER use any type of oil in there!! Just use a very mild cleaner and damp cloth. There also might be a damaged coin in there causing it to jam.
Once I'm doing with my NLG chores I'll turn my Sega around and have a look at my escalator and post back. It will be a couple hours.

I have a nickel that jams up my Jennings and I never can find it! LOL
I think its must be in my bonus container because it hasn’t reared its ugly head since last time it paid out.

Howdy,
Looks somewhat like a old Mills Escalator, but it has a little difference.  To fix the problem, take out the countless screws and take it apart and give it a good cleaning. That is a start, there is two other minor adjustments, but a good cleaning is critical.

rickhunter,

As dirtredroad stated. A good cleaning is in probably in order.  That escalator is basically the same as a Mills.  However, it was made by Sega as you can tell by the nickel plating and the part numbers stamped into all of the parts.  Not to mention that it's in a Sega machine.

Also, the upper springs on that escalator are funky.  There should only be one and not three.  I would suggest that you remove the escalator, clean it and replace the upper spring (MLB-2728 I believe).  When put back together you should be able to easily cycle it when out of the machine.  If you put the escalator back in and it still jams, then I would say that your mech is probably not fully returning and would lead me to believe that the mech would need to be cleaned too.  These old mechanicals tend to gum up after a period on time if not used regularly.

Keep in mind that  sega machines are similar in design to American mills slots, but they usually are made for foreign coinage !

I have one of the oddballs. This is an original Sega made for US dimes. It may have been at a base somewhere out in the Pacific ocean during the Vietnam war but the amazing condition it's in (other than cracking paint) leads me to believe it had very little use, if any. It literally looks new inside.

And Rick, what ever happened with that machine? Sorry didn't mean to hijack your post!  :arrowthruhead:
