3902 Game King, lost sound

I have a game king, everything worked great, just powered it up this week and noticed no sound. Traced the wiring and it looked fine, unplugged each speaker while testing sound, no difference.

On the suggestion of another thread, I removed the daughter board, still no sounds, coin in, spin, anything.

Only thing that changed is I removed the bill acceptor to troubleshoot a different machine.

I did all the swapping and removing with power off.

I don’t have an amp on my machine, sound originates from the main board I assume. I don’t have another game king to swap parts with.

I swapped the main board(with its own MML1 board), no difference, still no sound. I even swapped out the main power supply because I had one.

I did notice that 5he door I/o card had “bad” written on its connector. I’m guessing the sound does not go through the door I/o card.

I spent some time tracing wires and checking connectors but didn’t find anything obvious.

There was a nicked wire inside the bill acceptor, but I’m thinking unrelated. Bill acceptor works fine.

What’s my next step? Backplane/motherboard?

How about posting a picture of your sound board and the machine itself?

If you have the game king I think you do those speakers go bad. most and maybe all the sound goes through one side or the other of the speakers. Get into the top box and unplug each speaker and plug them into the other side. see if that works.

You got it Hotslot. I didn’t realize the speakers are in series. One speaker went bad, open circuit in series meant no sound. I grabbed a speaker from an S 2000 and connected it in place of the right speaker and there is sound now. Swapped the test speaker to the left and no sound.

I just need to track down a speaker now.

Those speakers are a little hard to find. I might have one. $25 plus shipping if I have it.

I found a company selling new speakers the same size and impedance that I thought I’d try. If it’s a mismatch, I’ll pick one up from you. I appreciate you for checking.
