sigma sg300 battery replacement question
« on: December 13, 2024, 05:37:49 am »
I'm a newbie to sigma machines.im looking for a battery for this game. I can't seem to find one just wanting to know what everyone might be replacing it with. The battery is a 3-volt cr2450 with leads that are part of the battery and there soldered to board. I looked at a lot of holders on Ebay but, I'm not sure if the board holes will line up with a holder

If the socket does't line up, you can always neatly solder in some jumpers, then add a dot of glue to hold the socket in place. Make sure it's not making contact with any other traces but it should be clear if it's mounted where the existing battery was.
Post a photo of your MPU board where the battery goes. That will help if someone else chimes in.

Hey Trashman, many of the early Sigmas didn’t use batteries, they used backup capacitors.
You can replace them with are rechargeable battery, nicad or Nimh. Or you can order backup capacitors. I used a 1/2 AA in mine and it worked fine. You just want to remember that you need to power on the game every few months if you aren’t using it a lot.

I think there are instructions on NLG if you want to put a non rechargeable battery, you remove a diode or something like that, you have to stop the charge current from going to the battery. For me it was just easier to put a rechargeable component back in.

That appears to have two backups….look at C1. That is a backup capacitor.

That battery was probably low or dead.
You're better off with a battery holder anyways.
I always measure the voltage with a multimeter on new ones right out of the packaging too.

If I remember right, the battery was just used for saving accounting data...If you were getting a low battery error, you should just be able to turn on S2-7 and the machine should work and not give you the error anymore (it turns off the low battery monitor...

Usually you just turn the reset key a few times. Sigmas usually recover from battery replacement without much fanfare. Someone just recently posted instructions to do a memory clear.
