Draw Poker Machine Question
« on: December 17, 2024, 10:43:36 am »
I recently acquired a IGT draw poker machine and I think it is a Fortune 1 machine built in 1981 (I have included a picture). My question is, when you draw a winning hand, it pays in coins and also adds the same amount in credit to the machine. In other words, if you win a hand and it drops 10 coins, it also adds 10 credits so you are double paid. How do you change that so it just pays in coin?

That's indeed a Fortune one.
Can you start with zero credits on the machine and play until you win. Then after it drops the coins during the win, see if you can cash out and get the same amount in the hopper.

We need to see a picture of the board. I don’t recall but there might be jumpers for retain credit and not. Maybe two jumpers are set making it do both.

Here are pictures of the board from my machine. I don't see any dipswitches to make changes. Is there a way or menu to access to reset the game? There is two red push buttons in the back of the case near the motherboard, what are they for?

Definitely F1.
We need Badbaud to weigh in here.
Those large capacitors definitely need to be checked. I doubt they will cause anomalies like you are experiencing though.

I would carefully lift and re-seat the ICs and eeproms that are in sockets. Carefully pry them up from each side and press them back in.

Is there a setup menu on these machines that I can also check? What are the two red buttons in the back of the machine used for? It is running great other than the credit/coin issue.

I don’t think F1s had setup, I think there were just options with the matching of game proms. The red buttons are resets if I recall. One might initiate degauss on the monitor.

One button is used for a game reset and the other is used for meter readings for the casino.

On a Fortune 1 you get the game software and nothing else.
It is either credit or no credit, the credit game has more buttons on the front switch panel.
Bet 1, Bet  max, and cashout.
There is only one setup option on some games and that is the denomination that can be set via the DIP socket below the 7407 video chip.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

We can’t see the buttons but based on the number of them and the fact that there are two on the left side…if one says cash out, its a credit machine.

Yes, there is a cash out button all the way on the left side. So knowing that, it should only pay to the hopper when the cash out button is pressed, correct? I have been looking through the threads to see why it is also dropping coins but can't find anything where someone had the same issue. Ideas?

I found these wires in the area behind the hopper. They come from the board on the left side of the case and I have no idea where they go and I am wondering if it may be causing this issue. I have included photos if someone can help identify where they go.

In the midst of the server issue I missed your last question.
Can you explain what you mean when you say it is dropping coins? Are you talking about when the coin mechanism diverts coins to the coin shoot on the right side of the case next to the hopper? If so, that is called a coin diverter. The machine tracks how many coins are going into the hopper and it believes the hopper is getting full, it begins diverting coins into the bottom cabinet that the slot Machine sits on. On many of these older games that cannot be disabled so what you would do would do is disconnect the wires to the electromagnet on the diverter.
If you mean the coins are dropping back into the front coin tray that is another issue. You would need to tell us an exact scenario.for example does it accept one coin then reject all others, is it random, etc.

Dropping coins to the tray and issuing credits at the same time. I did find that the socket on the board where the dip switch chip would go is empty, no switch.

Oh that original issue….
Didnt Badbaud say the credit or payout was game controlled on Fortune series?
I think I uploaded the jumper chart which confirms your issue is likely not related to jumpers.

He said it was either credit or cash game. Just can't figure out why it does both, I've scoured the internet about the issue.

Have you verified the switch on the cashout butyon isn’t stuck in NC?
It should be open until pressed but if someone has it wired wrong it might behave odd. Just stabbing at ideas.
There would only be information available to find if someone else has encountered this. You might need to send your board into KLar for a look.
