sigma b-50 shamrock 7's meter cut, check wire error
« on: December 29, 2024, 07:00:50 pm »
Hello, I am a newbie and have looked for this issue and could not find a solution, if there is one posted please kindly direct me to it.   I have a '91 model shamrock 7's that my info says is a b-50.  I purchased it not working, the 5 and 12v power supplies were bad, replaced all 3.   ( set voltages to 5.1,12.1, and 24.1) fired up and got the ram wrong error, cleared it with the reset key and now have the meter cut check wire error, and tilt light is on, bell goes continuously and any button I press makes the " drop " meter advance each time a button is pushed.  I have looked at all ribbon connections and wiring, haven't found any pinched wires or loose connections and have plugged an unplugged everything looking for a clue. I am thinking that the issue is with the "drop" meter or wiring, circuit.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to NLG.
I don’t recall seeing this issue mentioned in past post. I also don’t recall if B-50s use the same board as SG50 and SG150. There are several people here who can tell by looking at the board if you want to post a picture of it.
I do know these games are very sensitive to ribbon cable issues so its good you looked closely at that. They are also sensitive to low battery backup voltage, be sure to check the backup battery or backup capacitor voltage (your machine might have one or the other or both). If it has a backup capacitor you might get lucky letting it sit there and charge for an hour or so, but it really should get replaced with a NiMh /NiCad battery or another backup capacitor.
Depending on which version of board you have, K-Lar, one of our supporting vendors, should have the ability to test and/or repair the board.

Let us know what the backup voltage is and lets go from there.

Thank you for your response and the welcome.  After making the initial post, I sat down for over 2 hours looking over everything on the machine, basically disassembled  and reassembled it.  The ram wrong error took care of it self after the machine was plugged in for a while, Im guessing the capacitor charged up. One of the ribbon cables that goes to the small board on the door could plug in  either direction.  All the other ones can only plug in one way.  After closely examining I decided to flip the cable over and plug in the other way.  ( this cable was disconnected when I got the machine).  immediately the coin solenoid engaged, the machine dinged about 5 times and it was ready to go!   So basically only the power supplies were bad.  I have put maybe 100 quarters thru the machine and it seems to be working great!

That’s fantastic. That is the typical procedure for resetting a Sugma machine. Those backup capacitors are not intended for long term storage.
You might want to make a mark on one end of the ribbon and on the receptacle in case it ever gets unplugged in the future.
