The main things I would look into are the reel assembly and the kicker. Do the reels spin freely and smoothly by hand? If not the grease on the reel assembly may be hardening or gummy. Can you move the reel kicker? Sometimes they too get gummed up on the pivot point which can cause them to freeze or move too slowly to kick the reels. Lastly, how is the condition of the plate on the kicker that makes contact on the reel discs. These get worn after a period of time. Once these get worn, they kick the reels with less "oomph", sometimes the top of the kicker plate can break off too.
