IGT G23 red screen

came into work today to find one of our poker g23 went down/turned off i powered it back up and was met with (NON-RECOVERABLE ERROR) with the message in the middle of the screen that read

(cannot read cabinet memory) then at the bottom says (machine may require service. error may clear after a power cycle).

I did that and was still met with that red screen saying  (cannot read cabinet memory)

Most likely that the two CR2450 batteries in the PCI card are dead.   So the NVRAM is corrupt now.

To fix it, replace those two batteries, boot with the ekey7 & diag key and clear NVRAM and Safe Storage ONLY.  If you don't have an ekey7 and diag key, there's little you can do.

Then reboot with no keys plugged in   You'll get prompted to complete initial setup, but existing games will remain on the machine.  You'll just need to re-enable them after completing initial machine setup.

If you're replacing batteries, it's also a good idea to replace the CR2032 battery in the motherboard as well, as you'll reset the correct time/date when you complete initial setup after clearing the NVRAM.

Should put it back in service.  Those batteries generally last many years, but they do eventually go below min voltage which loses the NVRAM data requiring a reset like that after replacing the batteries.

Just before you grab Ekey 007 and the PCI batteries (as per sccarlso's post), try inspecting / reseating the ribbon cable that runs from this PCI card to the backplane.

 I feel ashamed to be called a slot tech  .It was the ribbon cable and a couple others as well that were lose. Now it's the button panel that is flashing csda I'm going to find a new ribbon for it cause I seen some scratches on it I seen copper Im sure thats not good...

Could you please tell me if a loose PCI ribbon cable in the cabinet could cause this issue?

I’m trying to build an IGT slot machine, and when I connect it to the SMLD backplane, I’m experiencing the exact same problem.

Also, could you let me know which other cables were loose in your case?
