742 need help figuring out what it is with a progressive. Thanks

Hello all!
My serial plate says it’s a 742A-M94 and is stamped July 22, 1965.
I think it’s the wrong reel glass?  And no belly glass.  Doesn’t work but did a few times.
What’s confusing me is the top part with a simple progressive wheel?  Can’t find any matching images on the net.

I would like to know more about the machine and what is the correct reel glass, belly glass, progressive glass, and reels.  Kinda want to get it fully working with the correct glasses basically.

Any help appreciated!

Back in the day, we used to use this things called computers. 
If you're still on one, like me (I have to be) - most all have photo viewing programs that will resize photos.
If you're on a phone, you can e mail it to yourself and most phones will give you the option to resize down from the original size.

for game id:

1] entire front of machine with glass installed
2] behind top glass (if there is one) ... both the lamp side and various pictures of the inside behind the lamps
3] code stamped into slotted index discs on the reels
4] m-645-xxx number on the payout counter disc.  Payout counter is usually on the hopper, but is sometimes mounted on the floor next to the hopper.
5] any other pics of the various sides of the reels, hopper and inside the cabinet

having a serial number plate made the machine legal to sell in various places, so it was pretty common to have serial plates swapped onto machines that were different models or have games rebuilt from parts into cabinets with a serial plate on it.

All I can figure from internet is that it maybe is an 809?  Can’t find any others with the progressive top .  It has some number 94s on the hopper and reel mech but can’t figure out what the serial number means.  Only the 3rd reel spins. Seems like the other 2 lock themselves in immediately.  I’ve read through the troubleshooting stuff and have cleaned and re oiled and even adjusted a few things based off of the 742 manual but am stuck now. Any help identifying or getting the first 2 reels to spin would be great,it does coin up and hopper will pay out if I manually line up the 7s

That machine is very close to an 873 but with the addition of a single progressive. The serial number plate was added to that cabinet at some point.

With the reels removed, look into the reel mechanism and notice how each reel has a lever. Those are the index levers and they need to rotate freely on the large shaft they are attached to. The first 2 levers are most likely sticking to the shaft. An easy check is to attempt to rotate that shaft using 2 fingers. If any of the parts on that shaft move, they are sticking and need to be oiled. Use an oil like 3-1 and work it in. While you’re at it, look along the front edge of each lever. You’ll find small black rollers. The bottom ones kick the reels into motion and the top ones stop the reels. These should easily spin. If they don’t, clean and oil them as well.

You also might have a badly worn clock mechanism.

I will check that and report back. Thank you!  The second reel will come forward slowly if I push it back by hand but just drops forward on a handle pull for some reason

Well I cleaned and oilled the pivots some more and now it does spin all three reels, but only when I pull the handle really slow, I guess allowing it more time to pull the wipers back possibly.
So I’m guessing I need to really tear it down and get things really oiled and moving.

The progressive thing up top hasn’t done anything other than light up although I do hear a solenoid clicking up there when I coin up.  That will be a future problem to deal with. 😂.  Thanks for the tips!

A little more cleaning and oil and it works great now. Even the multiplier works and advances the payout reels. 
Still haven’t figured out what exact machine this is.  The index reels say BPP5L, with a 1 2 and 3 down near the hub part.  The reel strips have no numbers on them either, nor the wiper blades.  No numbers anywhere except a 94 on the reel mech and the hopper.

Does anybody know what exact model this is?  Been pouring over the databases and can’t find anything. Thank you in advance

the cabinet itself is from the era of the 785, 808, 809, 831 or 873.  The 742A serlal plate is from a different machine as the cabinet on a 742A doesn't have a top compartment.  Swapping serial plates is common as the machines needed one to legally sell them.

the interesting bit is the top insert board ... it looks like reels from a 785, but uses cube relays.

the reel tape part numbers are on the underlap section, so you need to slightly uncrimp the top of the tape and pull it out to see the "end" of the tape underneath.  However, your tapes are not bally production, so don't bother looking.

the BPP-x code on the index disc could be bally park place casino in atlantic city, but that didn't exist until the late 1970's when the EM slots were being replaced by the E series.  I do have record of a BPP index code used on 22 stop index discs p-684-[504,505,506], but no idea what machine used them ... it was a 5 coin multiplier of some type as the full code was bpp-5cm-tb-[1,2,3]

maybe the biggest hint would be the wiring on the reel 3 wiper board and any part numbers on the back of the glass pieces.  Can you post/email a pic of the reel 3 wiper board wiring and reel 1 wiper board wiper side?

bally tied the wiring harness with string, so plastic zip ties suggests either the game was cobbled together in the aftermarket or someone cut the string to access wires.  'course, it could be a prototype game.

if the aftermarket made it, I'd look and see how similar to a 785 or 922 it was.  Both those had dual progressives, but the basic circuits could be close.  The brown/yellow wire on the jackpot step-up unit (white score reel I assume) doesn't match the bally progressives tho.
