Reel Type Comparison

While Bally Alpha Reels may look the same... they can be really different on the inside. Here's a couple pictures comparing the 2 and which cabinet uses what type. If you ever need to buy new reels make sure you know what you're getting! Everything is different, the motor, LEDs, Backplane, mounting harness, EVEYRTHING. What many don't know is that the reel type doesn't matter when using software. Ex; ASGB7HS01001-01 or ATGRUBY02600-01 will not look for a specific type, as long as they detect reels then you're good.

CineReels Series (CineReels uses wider baskets and strips compared to iReels and Alpha 2)

looks good to me.  I knew of the different stepper types since I have a tansmissive bally machine, but I didn't know the backplanes and harnesses were different as I never bothered looking closely as I never planned to convert the transmissive cabinet to anything else.

but yes, the backplanes and harnesses are different. Backplanes with Micro stepper ports have no audio amplifier in, out and plugin interface since the audio amp is straight to the amplifier to the backplane if you have a (original) Transmissive cabinet (T20/T32) or Cinereel. Speaking of Cinereel the RCU tray is placed facing up as opposed to straight. The mounting harnesses have 3 plugin ports, one for control and 2 for power. More pin connections on Micro stepper than standard S9E reels. Firmware is different for reel control too. Standard S9E uses ‘AVRU6REEL180-03’ as for A2 Pro Series uses ‘AVRU6REEL188A02’ Not sure for transmissive and Cinereel but I’m pretty sure the same.

Rick since you stated you have a transmissive, would you possibly by any chance be able to tell me what firmware you have on your reel controller? Need it for research since I plan to do a Micro stepper upgrade on one of my Alphas.

Thought I’d update this with a comparison of an Elite Upright & Cinereels backplane. One important thing is that the voltage on them are different. Cinereels needs the same DC harness but with all pinouts filled for correct power. I don’t have a Cinereels myself but someone was lucky enough to give me spare Cinereels items. If I could get the power cable I could figure out the firmware for Cinereels.

I've got 2 T32 (V32 Transmissive/Transparent) cabinets that are missing the software.

Do you know of a list of available games for these machines so I can narrow down what it is I'm looking for?

There are no SMI Numbers anywhere in the Cabinets, so all I've got to go on is Rell Strips and Artwork on the Top Plexiglass.

My 2 games are "Hot Shot Multi Stacks" (3 Reel) and "X Free Games" (also a 3 Reel)

Do you happen to have either of those Game Files?

That would be incredible if I could find them. I hate having perfectly good machines just sitting around. Lol.

This is a fairly old topic but both stepper types will work in Alpha Elites, Micro Stepper will ONLY work in Cinereels and Alpha 2. As for getting Micro Steppers to work in an Alpha Elite, you'll need a different backplane and a harness that has 3 ports. One for control and backlit LEDs, reel power, and another for additional reel power. Uses the same backplane from an Alpha 2 Cash Wheel, just make sure the reel tray has firmware for REELS and not Cash Wheel.
