Bally 956-24 multiplier

I just bought this little guy and I will pick it up this weekend 🤗

I’m a bally slot machine collector and I never seen this machine before except on net, I live in Norway by the way
and I don’t think this machine is very common over here. All the glasses are in very good condition and it looks clean
and if it’s not working i think it’s probably a easy fix..

I paid $400 includes the not matching stand that I don’t think is the right stand for this machine..

Anyone knows anything about this machine and what the number stands for? 956-24 956-967

the top number is the model and the bottom number is the serial number.

a 956-24 was made later than I have information on (my paperwork goes up to 956-16). 

the game should be close to a 956-1.  I put the paperwork for the 956-1 in https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

I will check the machine when I get it, how similar it is to the 956-17 seems to be the pretty similar to that also.

I have never worked on this machine before, if you see it’s stuffed since it’s a more compact machine and the parts in the back on the left side of the reel mech, I'm not sure what that’s for.. and it seems like this machine is imported from us if you look at the plug!

I’m not sure but I guess I maybe need to rewire the 122 105 transformer if it’s 110v I will try to compare the wiring with one of my other machines..

a lot of the 956-17 is going to be close ... except the reel and payout disc wiring.

your machine likely has molex plugs like the -17 rather than the older jones plugs, but often the wiring is the same.

the 956 is a lowboy version of an 809 ... wider cabinet but no top compartment, so the pieces that were in the top on an 809 needed to be shoved in wherever they would fit.   

the multiplier units (look like pinball score reels), the line unit and a few relays needed to find a new home in the areas with the reels and hopper.

the little transformer diagram showing which lugs/jumpers to attach to on the transformer is usually all you need, and it looks like all you need to do is move one wire from lug 5 to lug 9 to convert from 120V to 220V (or lug 8 if your mains is 240V).

if your transformer has lugs 1-3 and 5-7 jumpered together tho, you need to cut/remove those jumpers and only jumper 3-5 together.

the schematic drawing of the transformer windings doesn't match what the transformer symbol shows.   The schem is drawn using an alternate way to connect the transformer for 120V only.  The 952-A schem has two transformer drawings - one of them matches how the schem is drawn.

I picked up the slot machine yesterday and it really looks in good condition, I tried it on 110volt and it seems to work

that's the 120V wiring/jumpering on the transformer.

you have 230V mains?  If so, I don't know if the games would be configured for 220V or 240V ... 230V isn't an option.

if you have other machines that run directly on 230V, take a look at those.  It's likely:

1] white wire on lug 1 (like it is)

2] jumpered together lugs 3 and 5.  Currently you have 1-3 and 5-7 and would need to remove those (odd numbered lugs are on bottom of transformer)

2.5] connect the black wire to lug 3 or 5 ... doesn't matter which since they are jumpered together.

3] connect the red to lug 7 for 240V or lug 9 for 220V.  If in doubt, try lug 7/240V first so your internal voltages will be a bit lower.

wrt dimes, probably the cheapest way is get someone in the usa to send you a boxful.  You may need to look up if there's any customs/rules for currency.    How many coins are you wanting?  100 coins is around 227g, so they aren't very heavy.

I looked at some of the other machines and several of them was totally different

In Norway it’s 230 volt 50 hertz AC

You wrote something about connect the red and black wire together and attach to 7 or 9 but none of my machines have that combination

1 white
3-5 jumped together
7 none
9 blue

the black wire stays on lug 3/5 and the red goes on lug 7 or 9 depending on your mains voltage.  The idea is you're using the transformer to produce 120V for the hopper motor and other stuff.

the blue wire on lug 9 and jumper on 3-5 means the transformer is set for 220V.   With 230V mains, your internal voltages will be a little higher than typical, but not a problem.

on your 831-c-se, follow the blue wire and see if it connects to a different color wire on some crimp connectors or a fuse.  The other thing that got changed around is which wire from the power cord had the fuse ... and occasionally they both did.

it's possible that games made specifically for SE will have different wire colors.  e.g. the 918-1 shows the power cord connecting to a blue/red wire that goes to a safety time switch and from there a white/yellow wire goes to the transformer. 

in your 831-c-se or other games, what color wire is on the hopper motor, safety timer motor, flourescent ballasts and override solenoid on the hopper (if you have the old style hopper with the motor on the side)?

Yes now it’s finally works on 230v and I think the blue wire on lug9 have been replaced at some point with the red wire, I found out that I have several slot machine with the red wire on lug 9.

I want to install a chime for my 956-24 multiplier and i want it to chime for all 5 coins,anyone know where I shall connect the chimer?

This is the only multiplier that I have and I guess I can not connect it to the handle release coil like I have done with some other machine.

assuming it's a 50V chime, connect it in parallel to the total in meter coil.  i.e. wires 63-2 and 23-1 (from coin switch).  You can use wire 70 instead of 63-2 if it's more convenient.
