Remote monitoring and control

Curious if there is any technical information on the POG serial interfaces.
I understand some had modem support and that can even be linked together. Curious if any useful data can be sniffed from the bus or if a modem could be emulated to allow checking pay in, pay out and things like.
If not, my alternative idea is to man in the middle the bill validator and ticket printer and report the data out to a web backend. A more direct method would be reading the data directly from the eproms, or even something as crazy as using an IP KVM to completely remote control the machine.

I spoke to some buddies that are operators (machines all over town), its a manual effort, but they would love a way to monitor all of their sites remotely.

Doing a little digging around, it looks like the settings and audit log is stored on the U45 chip. My guess its a fairly generic eeprom, I'll have to see if I can read the part number off the IC get a datasheet. Plan is to dump its contents, do a little reverse engineering to see if I can read what I need out of it.
