Aristocrat Esprit Slot Machine some questions
« on: May 14, 2025, 04:21:42 am »
HI ALL!! My first post from Italy :)

I bought an Aristocrat Esprit slot machine at a vintage market for ornamental/decorative use... at a first internal inspection, as a true beginner, everything seems to be in excellent condition despite its 40 years.. boards and various components are visually free of oxidation..

When I turn it on, all the lights turn on, but the lights of the display in the CASH section (top left) are irregular and also accompanied by distorted sounds...

However, a strange thing happened:

As an inexperienced person, I turned off the slot, opened the front door with the key and turned it on again, but I immediately noticed that the CASH display was completely devoid of lights (the ones that make the numbers and the various scores appear) - In the previous power-up they worked!! P.S. I think I pressed some button (Payout Security Restet and Service 1 / 2)

What could have happened? Could it be a fuse?

Advice and opinions on this machine and this problem would be very helpful, thank you!!

See attached photos

Many Thanks
Best regards

I'm moved this to "Other Reel Games."
This might be a tough one but we have a few members that may be able to chime in and help you out.
Even with the machine being clean, you may need to (power OFF) check each connector, pull out the MPU and any other boards to check the contacts, etc.
Consider becoming a regular contributing member, which helps pay costs to keep this site up and running so you can keep your machine up and running :)

Some of the electronics is behind the top glass. They used lamps the size of glass fuses and were clipped into fuse holders.
The metal cage on the lower left floor usually contains a leaking battery.

It's been a while since I have worked on one of those.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Many thanks for your precious reply Badbaud.. Any information about fuses, lithium batteries positions and crucial points etc etc.. on where to intervene are much appreciated... P.S. I have assembled / Repair many PCs over the years but this is the first time I have had to deal with these slightly different machines..

Maybe you should change the CMOS battery (Or some equivalent..) on the motherboard.. maybe other lithium batteries placed somewhere? Would that be a good place to start?

Best Regards

Sorry.. Is there an explanation as to why, before opening the machine door for the first time, the CASH section would light up showing all the counters/numbers at ZERO and, after closing it and turning it back on, the CASH section now no longer gives any signal and is completely off?

Best Regards

Any chance the door open switch is wired backwards?

The red light on the display is now back!

To do this I inserted and rotated the key on the right side of the slot machine and then turned it on. But the numbers are irregular and the speaker makes a shrill and distorted sound..

The questions I ask myself about the display at this point are 3:

Is the display damaged?
Is there some false contact to restore?
Is there some battery to replace?

Best Regards

I'm no expert in these but I just repaired 2 of them this week.
Id be glad to help

Regarding why you saw numbers vs not, if you flip the service switch inside the machine from position 1 to 2 or vice versa, you'll get the red numbers or turn them off.
