Touchscreen Issue

Not sure what to call it, "skipping" or something like that:  I took a short 12 second video:

I removed the screen and bezel, cleaned it all up.  Obviously calibrated many times and checked all the connections.

The digitizer isn't the 3M one, it's the one with 6 or 9 calibration points.

Hi Jalpert
Im no expert so hopefully someone with more experience will jump in.
However, I would start by checking the power supply voltage coming in to the touch controller board. Verify it has the specified voltage under load (connected to the monitor). You might have to clip on to the contact points on the board and sometimes those have two options for connecting…you can tap into the one that is not being used.
Sometimes power supplies are hard wired and sometimes they use one of those stand alone wall transformers with a round connector. I think most of those boards run on 5-12v. It should be printed on the board, if not Tovis manuals are available.
You might look at the PS that is connected and find one of similar voltage/amperage rating and see if there is any improvement.
Moral of the story, Power supply will have to be ruled out before any other troubleshooting can be done.

I don’t see anywhere to meter, but I put a meter on the usb connection from the computer and it’s a solid 5v.

I tried different usb ports, I tried a different power cable (usb appears to be where it’s getting its power.

Is there something I should do different?

I think thats a good test. I’m really not that familiar with modern touch screens but I know you want to verify PS a d it sounds like you are good.
Hopefully someone with more experience on modern units will jump in.

I'll tell you why the touches are "jumpy".
If you remove that touchscreen glass from the LCD and look at a strong fluorescent light through it, you will see a million haphazard horizontal scratches.
Guess where those came from?
Little old ladies with diamond rings.

Yep...no way to fix scratches.
I measure it exactly first, (horizontally and height and diagonally)  then I go find a cheap touchscreen like on Facebook Marketplace or someplace like that.
All I do is make sure the touchscreen is the same size...I think G23's are 19- 1/2" X 12-1/2" ?
also note where the ribbon comes out at from the TS panel....again, on a G23, I know the ribbon cable comes out the left side of it when looking at it from the front sitting down playing the machine.
The ribbon cable has to be long enough ( 8") as the one you have now.
I've replaced touchscreens for as little as $15 from Facebook Marketplace.
People just sell off their old computer monitors for next to nothing.
Those touchscreens for like restaurant menus and table placement are the ones I look for.
Get a cheap one like ViewSonic, HP, or Asus....cheap Chinese stuff.

Just make sure you do all the homework first like getting at least the numbers from the seller first.
Then you look for a specification sheet for that monitor to see if the touchscreen is something that'll work in your machine.
Otherwise you'll be paying an arm and a leg for something that's basically cheap as heck.
The other thing to watch out for in G23's are the inner LCD panel...those are sandwiched inside and tend to burn out before the outer LCD and the touchpanel.
It's the old ladies that ruin the outer touchscreen.

In one instance we found one of the 4 wires that attaches to the 4 corners of the panel was smashed between the two layers and over the years the wire broke. Once it was re-attached it worked fine.
Wouldn’t it take really deep scratches from a ring to mess up the touch function?

I'm afraid not...when looking at it closely, you can see it was all fine diamond scratches right across the glass.
Totally corrupts the field.
You can try to do the calibration all day long but it won't help because the field is screwy due to the scratches.

Would anything like this be worth a try? I think there's other cheaper brands as well.
