Fortune One Background Color
« on: May 28, 2025, 10:16:14 am »
My Fortune One backgroung is black. Is that normal? Seems all the machines I have seen are blue.

There are 3 potentiometers on the board, they are notorious for going bad, they control RGB respectively.
You can try spraying contact cleaner and swiping them back and forth but more than likely they will need to be replaced. Many times the techs replace them with a fixed value resistor that gives you a green-ish color. I am not near my machine right now to tell you what the value is but maybe someone else has one and will jump in.

And that battery is not necessary for home use. Most Fortune Ones do not retain credits so it was only used for accounting purposes.
Most of those Evereadys are dead and you don’t want it to start leaking.

Thanks.
I will look at cleaning them. The battery is new, replaced it couple months ago. Funny you should mention credits because this machine pays in credits and coins at the same time. If you win a hand, lets say 10 quarters, it will give you 10 credits and drop coins from the hopper also. Can't figure that one out either.

To get a blue background remove the 3 pots and replace with resistors.
The pot closest to the edge gets replaced with a 100 Ohm 1/4W resistor
the pot in the center is replaced with a 750 Ohm 1/4W resistor
the third pot is replaced with a 510 Ohm 1/4W resistor

badbaud
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Moderators, if this is not a sticky.  I think this is a good thing to keep on hand to avoid trying to research it again.

I cleaned the 3 potentiometers and rolled them around carefully with a small screwdriver. Now it is working with a blue screen following some minor adjustments to them. Thanks for the information. Now I just need figure out the credit/hopper issue and the machine will be in good working order. I appreciate the help.

My initial thought was that there might be conflicting jumpers both set to on. However, the credit/coin option is one jumper, either or.
I seem to recall someone within the past year overcoming this same issue, you might want to browse all posts in the topic to see if you can find it.
One thing for sure, you should (carefully) lift and re-seat any IC or eeprom that is mounted in a socket. There is a chance they have been untouched for 35+ years and could have oxidation. If you see any heavy buildup use a pencil eraser or fiberglass brush to clean the pins. Never use sandpaper.

Its possible there is a poor connection that is causing a minor data glitch.

I lifted and cleaned the chips but maybe this one is still dirty. It's D8?

These are the buttons on the front. It must have a credit feature since you can cash out. I looked through the posts but didn't find anything. Just would like it to pay in coins, no credits.

Mine retains credits!
And I actually adjust my colors with the potentiometers on the CRT, on top. I've actually never touched the ones on the MPU board. Sorry I hijacked the thread!
