Author Topic: Game King 6.2 In/Out Counters Not Working (Read 4206 times)

I have a Game King 6.2 whose mechanical In/Paid Out counters have stopped working. On one hand, its a joy to not hear those mechanical counters clack away for a hour or so catching up after someone has finished playing. On the other hand, I'm wondering if this is the sign of something serious that may get worse with time.

The machine is bills/paper in, paper out (no coins, no hopper) with a TITO device.

If its a clue as to what might be wrong, one of the counters is stuck on 000000.

Thoughts anyone?

It's no big deal if you're not getting an error preventing game play. Many people bypass them (recommended) to avoid the annoyance.

I'd power off and pull out, then plug back in the connector that goes to the meters. Check for any broken wires. They can get kind of dirty back there and you may have just lost contact.

Those mechanicals counters can be going on to over 15 -20 years old now?
Chances are the pawls & gears are shot.
Type in the words "bypass meters" in the Game King section and you should get some topics on how to do it.

Thanks everyone! I bought the machine in 2013 and other than replacing the battery, it has run well for the past 12 years.

I have learned a great deal about the machine from all of you just now and over time from NLG. Your assistance is greatly appreciated, especially that of shorttrakskater, who over the years has provided a wealth of knowledge. Again, thanks to everyone. .

Let us know what happens! Check that connector and the settings.

Hmmmm this may rule out my connector/contact suggestion.
What would be the odds of a counter that loses it's signal just as it turns to 000000 !

I'm going to say the counters got stuck when the 6 nines turned to zero?
Might be a built in EOL (End Of Life) function 100,000th digit counter.

Sorry folks, my bad. I looked at the counters in the dark without my glasses on. The counter in question reads 600000 and not 000000. Here's a photo -

Okay...it's the "IN" meter.
I'd like a machine that pays back ten coins, for every six I put in!!

Try taking a the plastic handle of a screwdriver and tap that meter a buncha times.
Betcha there's a pawl stuck on a gear inside.
I took one of these old things apart once.
If that doesn't move it, then the resistor on the circuit board might be burned out.

Uh Oh! Previously I said the machine hasn't had a single problem in the 12 years I've owned it. Well, I was wrong. This afternoon I booted the machine and discovered it had a tummy ache. The screen rolls from the bottom to the top while the sides go back and forth like thay have taken bad drugs. Please see attached photo. Your thoughts?

And to Shorttrak, no, I haven't tried plugging and unplugging. There is so much security armor around the counters and plugs that I got discouraged and gave up on the idea of trying to remove it to get to the everything.

Out of frustration and finally being willing to pay for the service call, I texted an IGT tech I know. He had me run through a number of things including unplugging and plugging back in the CPU and the monitor.

Well, now the counters work, however, it appears the monitor is shot. After 12 years I guess it had a good life. He will be out next weekend to service the machine.

Is your IGT tech on NLG? I know very few people in OC that service slots other than Mr Dinoman, Jim here on NLG.
