CEI 906 Turbo MUX error
« on: June 06, 2025, 02:27:20 pm »
I have a CEI 906 Turbo poker/blackjack machine (5 games) that has a MUX error that will not go away. From reading previous posts regarding this problem it is necessary to go to OPTIONS to remove this error.
My question is....HOW do you get to OPTIONS? The game currently coins up, and deals out cards, but the buttons to hold cards take a long time to light up. The machine puts up credits and will pay out, but only 10 coins at a time when pressing the collect button. Also, when I go to the learn mode, I can only move the cursor up or down, but am not able to change any thing. So problem one is the MUX error removal and problem two is getting the learn mode to function. Also when a game is over $1.00 appears in the center of the screen. I want to change that to either 5 cents or 25 cents.
Please help! Thank you.

Hello and welcome to NLG.
I don’t have any experience with the multi game CEI machines, hopefully one of the other members knows more.

I will share a few things I know about CEI machines. I assume this applies to 906 boards too. Maybe not.
Before I list my things I want to say that there is at least one manual for CEI in our file system. You need to be a contributing member to get access, even if you make a one-time contribution of $10 you will get 30 days access. I highly recommend it, I use our files all the time.

1. I have a CEI machine that pays out 10 coins at a time, not sure if it can be changed…try holding the button.
2. I once heard that if CEI machines get locked up you can swipe your hands across all the buttons like a child swiping piano keys…as the machine is booting. Doesn’t hurt to try.
3. Im pretty sure the manual says how to get into setup. Usually it involves turning the reset key during boot up or if there is a reset button.
4. On CEI machines you can carefully remove the memory chip and ground it on a piece of tin foil for about 30 seconds. Should reset anything being held in error. If you are not literate in handling or removing ICs watch a YouTube video first. Handle with care!

Please keep us posted.

In stumbling around I was somehow able to get into the Blackjack LEARN mode and change it to a 10 coin game and to change the card interval time. There was no option to change the coin denomination or to change the amount of coins dispensed when pressing the collect button.
I wasn't able to find a way to change the poker options at all.
Looking at a posting a few years ago it says that MUX can be removed by going to expanded options and put UID 1492 in an also PW 1086. What is UID and PW? I see 4 boxes that I could put 4 numbers in, and then what? Save them somehow? What about the other 4 numbers? Can anyone explain this to a dummy like me? Can someone PLEASE HELP ME? :Scratch-Head:

A few years I had a CEI Double Bonus Poker machine.  Tried everything to clear the MUX error, wasn't able to.  The machine played fine just displayed the error.  Sold the game.

I am sorry to hear that. It sure isn't the answer that I was hoping to hear. Maybe, someone else had better luck. If so, PLEASE let me know. Thank you kindly.

I was finally able to figure out how to remove the MUX error, and now the machine almost runs perfect, with one exception. The cards come out fine and turn over, but then there is about a five second delay
before the HOLD buttons will light up so I am able to select which cards I want to hold. It seems like an hour before the HOLD buttons light up. Is there any way to get them to work faster? I have had many
other CEI 906 models before, and they never took this long for the HOLD buttons to light up. They always came on as soon as the cards turned over. Any thoughts on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Note: The speed that the cards are dealt out with is just fine, it is just that the HOLD buttons take too long to light up. When playing the Black Jack game, and the options to get insurance or double up, the HOLD buttons take way to long before they light up.

Likely a component that has some impact on timing. Capacitor, 555 IC, resistor, bad connection on the leg of an IC. Could also be the computer I suppose.

If you trace a bulb to the board then follow the trace to the transistor that controls it, from there you can follow the trace that goes to the IC that controls it. You might find something along the way. But if they are all delayed its more upstream.
You can send the board to KLar, Im pretty sure they have a test station for the 906 board.

I have two like boards, and have the same issue on both of them. Other than the button delay, both function normally.

You would need to look at the schematic to see how the lamps are driven. Does the 906 board connect to a motherboard on the back wall?
Is it possible the lamps are driven by a component on the motherboard?….if so that would answer why all boards behave the same.
Schematics are the answer to troubleshooting electronics. Without one you are limited to sending the board to someone who can test it or tracing it out using your own logic.

Did you trace one of the hulb wires to where it goes as I suggested in my earlier post?

Chris

Thank you for the tips. Your reasoning make sense. I have been busy with other things but will get into checking things as soon as I can. I have two other CEI machines and will try the 5 game board in the 906 machine that has the single poker game currently on it. That should tell me if the problem is in the motherboard or not.
