IGT Glitter bar and hex topper on G20
« on: June 27, 2025, 09:07:41 pm »
So I just installed a glitter bar and hex topper onto an IGT G20. The machine never had one before. I got the power for the topper and power for the candles connected, and hooked up the USB port to an open port on the backplane. However none of my games ever control it, I can’t find any settings for them to control it, and it stays in a constant rainbow loop pattern. Are there some COM port setups that I have to do, some software/dip switch settings to change to get it to recognize? The USB cable I am using worked fine with the last thing I’ve used with it, so I can try to swap that. But I’m a little lost as to if I need to enable any options

I’ve gone there and it is set for games to control the lighting, but nothing ever happens in game. Or maybe none of my games can control it, but I’ve got 40 games and it seems unlikely to me that none of them would support it. I did try a different USB cable as well

Try Triple Red Hot 7s free games (4PJ5). It should work. If not, check the dip switch settings on the topper and or glitter bar.

Unfortunately I do not have that game on my machine. I have tried lucky lock, lobstermania 40 line and 1024 multiway, coyote moon, ghost wilds, cleopatra II, day of the dead, and western stars gunslingers. I’ve tried a few others too but still nothing. I know the dip switched inside the glitter bar are all set to off, are there some in the hexagon, or some in the machine as well?

So I just opened my topper up and the top hexagon has a “suzo happ” sticker inside it. I could only find dip switches on the glitter base. Is this an aftermarket topper that doesn’t support being controlled by the machine? I’m worried I spent money for a topper just for it to not even be right. There is a circuit board for the glitter bar, then a jumper that goes from that pcb straight to one of the 4 pcbs that make up the hexagon of lights

Update: i looked around online and i found that there's a second controller board in the original toppers, and that this one is an aftermarket topper. Is this correct? Mine does not have a controller in the hexagon. It goes straight from the glitter bar to the 4 LED boards. Can that board be added in? I bought the topper specifically so it would do all the cool animations with the game, now i feel sick like i didn't do enough research before i bought.

Another update, i pulled the suzo happ hex topper off and had just the glitter bar attached. The glitter bar still had the generic rainbow pattern but it was slightly different, so it knew there was no topper on it. But it still didn't respond to anything machine side. I enabled and disabled all my game themes multiple times, enabled and disabled the ability for games to control lights, set a single default light color, but still nothing. I have an AVP 3.0 system, I have attached a picture of all the model/part numbers just for clarity sake. But regardless it shouldn't be a compatibility issue not? I feel like i must be missing something like the other control board. I have also attached an image of what my control board looks like missing the board, and another image of a topper with this board. Just want to run that bay you as well as a possibility

That picture you posted of the secondary controller is mine. From what I can gather, that secondary controller pictured is if you have this specific topper and do not have a glitter bar. With the glitter bar, that controller is built into it. There are only certain games that will control the glitter bar and topper, so not all of them. I just got a glitter bar with a topper, but missing the power cable. I am waiting on that to confirm my findings. I see a lot of toppers for sale that seem like they came off a glitter bar and thus would not work without that secondary controller, but since you have the glitter bar, everything you have is working how it should as long as the game will control it, otherwise it is in default mode.
