Help needed - IGT AVP MLD 20" monitor has died.

Hi All,

After about 9 months of so of good use with my IGT AVP system, I had friends come over and (of course) when I turned the machine on the bottom screen stayed black. Machine hasn't been opened or touched in about 4 weeks when it worked fine. Opened the door, checked all the cables etc and everything looks good.

The top monitor displays the logo as it should. The CPU beeps as it boots. If I plug in a PC VGA monitor I see the logo on the main screen output, so.... I think it's definitely the monitor.
The green leds on the back of the monitor beside the panel menu and adjustment buttons do light up. The monitor is black, no "No input" and menu button etc never displays anything.

Last time I played I did notice after a while there was an almost imprecievable fluctuation in brightness on that bottom monitor. lighter, dimmer, lighter, dimmer.... very faint but noted it as odd--- but it kept playing so we kept going.

I had replaced the cooling fans awhile back, so tonight I removed the monitor again and pulled the back off. I read issues about with CAPs on some of these monitors, I do see some slight discoloration on a couple caps (posted in pic) but no bulge is visible.

The Monitor is a Kortek KTL201MD-02. I can do board level CAP replacement no problem, but there are two video boards and lots of caps. Was hoping someone could give me some advice on what next steps you would recommend.

Final question, I see several KTL201MD-01 monitors for sale online, but none of the xxxx-02 versions. Are they interchangeable? I'd prefer to repair my monitor, but if I can't I am trying to figure out what my next steps would be.

with the machine up and running use a flashlight at an angle to the screen and see if you see the image. If so it would be the inverter board has probably gone bad. it runs the backlighting.

This was indeed the case. I'll try to detail what happened to my setup for others here as a reference. Removing the back cover from my monitor revealed the video input boards, where I had searched for a bad cap. A second housing (holding the video inputs) had to be removed to get to the inverter board. Once I got to it, there was obvious capacitor leakage. I also found one of the two fuses  (F101), near the cap sets blown.

I ordered replacement fuses and caps (plenty of spares!) for less than $20 from digikey. After cleanup of the board with the old parts removed, the new parts installed easily.
