2001 Game Maker VIP Slant top
« on: August 11, 2025, 03:02:18 pm »
HELP*

I was given a Bally Game maker VIP slant top from a family member, got home pugged it in and needed saferam clear ( most likely due to sitting and battery dead)... I have so far replaced battery with exact same and purchased Saferam clear and a Debug just incase.

I am having a hell of a time getting this thing up and running, even with a manual on hand. Basically I keep getting "Bill acceptor: NO errors. No printer" message. along with some weird stuff going on with my door sensors. It seems like the machine thinks the door is open when its actually closed, and closed when its actually open. ( i get a machine icon with the doors red when its closed)  I may have a few issues with this thing although it did work when it was last played... I believe it has to be a mechanical door, not optic??

once I saferam clear, config to the best of my knowledge the bill acceptor runs for a few seconds then I get a red circle with a line through it on the face. I know this acceptor is a WBA acceptor because of the part number sticker on it and I set it to the correct setting. This machine also has a coin hopper and acceptor. and NO printer. Bottom left of screen says : "acceptor Disabled" I have also cleaned up the sensors on bill acceptor with some rubbing alcohol.

any suggestions from someone that has had the same issue or has insight? Im about ready to just send it to the dump. I also have not ran debug mostly because I have no procedure for that yet.

What setup instructions did you use? Is this a V7000? Please post a picture of the board so we know for sure. The games look like V7000 series but I have no experience with V9000.
Printer should not be enabled if you don’t have one.
Don’t forget the last step of taking it out of demo mode. Terminal ID: 1111111111

Obviously if your machine has optics you will select optical door instead of mechanical and such.

This is a V7200 machine. Is there a possibility this is a optic door on this old thing? I thought for sure it was just a mechanical door. Attached is the saferam procedure ive been using along with the manual, board, and front of the machine. Some items in the manual for set up I am still a bit unsure of even after doing research etc. For printer I obviously select NONE but it still is giving me an error message for " no printer" I believe Ive got some other settings incorrect making it pop up. I also had no idea about taking it out of demo mode, I will take note. Thank again for any help on this thing.

Yup, my 2000 GM has optics. You do need to find the switch and be sure, otherwise it will not recognize the door being closed.
I don’t know why its throwing a printer error, that sounds like it's not accepting the change after you make the selection. When you move on from printer selection to the next option does it show None?

I’ll need to find out a way to confirm if it is optic door, starting to think it is and that’s one of my problems. I will double check to make sure printer stays on NONE when moving to next selection, good idea. I’ll report back as soon as I can give it another shot. A video online of a guy with a upright configuration shows him saying to leave door ajar while doing all the config… although the has a different model, I wonder if I need to follow some of his steps…

As long as it is in the config screen you are ok.
Here is what the optics look like on an upright. Your display should tell you the door isn’t open, if it doesn’t there is something wrong.

My machine has the long white buttons for the door but I’ve been trying to compress them with the main door open along with another paddle/switch by the bill acceptor to see if it does show door closed but it doesn’t trick the machine. I will look for the same sensors you’ve sent. Thank you.

Also if this makes any sense, am I supposed to do a safe ram clear, then immediately shut down, set dips back to off and remove clear chip? Turn back on then config? Or safe ram clear it, then finish set up.  When it’s complete, reset dips 1-8 the remove clear chip / install game?

Or does neither matter?? Haha

Ah, I think you mis-read the instructions.
Set switch 8 on SW1 bank to on.not all of them
Actually our GM expert Badbaud would say flip switches 7 and 8 on SW1….the top bank of switches.

Your machine has a logo telling you everything that is tripped…Door, BV, lower door in your case…with all doors closed that logo should disappear, here is a picture of mine with door open and BV door open. Then a picture of it closed up.

Game will not play unless that logo is cleared.

Once initial setup is complete when it says restart, turn it off, remove set chip, switch back to on, then start.  After restart go into terminal ID and set 111111111. .

Ive read many people say 1-8 and many say only 7&8 dips. My instructions from JJ slots says 1-8… I’ll try only 7&8.

And yes you are correct, I can’t figure out why it’s telling me all doors are open when I clearly closed them. I need to try optic door setting that might be my problem…

I will report back after trying these other settings.  Once again, can’t say it enough but thanks for your time Chris.  Wish me luck.

It says DIPSW1-8
If you look at the printing on the board it is stamped SW1, that is referring to the bank of switches. -8 means switch 8.
But yes, if it isn’t registering that the doors are closed you need to select optic.

I think you will have much better luck making these two changes.

UPDATE:

I am getting closer. The machine for sure is optic door. So the door is now working properly opening and closing. I did only flip 7&8 on top bank DIPSW1. Not sure if that did anything. But the machine is still giving me a “ acceptor disabled” error on bottom left of screen ( and acceptor door still giving me red circle with line through). The acceptor starts up making noise for few seconds then stops. I flipped open both lids on top of acceptor, nothing jammed. Pulled out bill box. Everything looks good. I’m stumped. Family said this bill acceptor worked fine years ago… is there a possibility it’s failed and I need to replace it? Sure looks like a doozy to swap out.

If I  try to throw a coin in the coin acceptor it just drops right into the payout bucket. I’ve selected coin acceptor and cod board ( because after doing some research it have what it is coin mechanisms cc-16)

Lastly following most of your set up picture, once I get to final games set up I no longer see any options under “ diagnostics or configure”. Not sure what setting removed those.

Any suggestions on this dang bill acceptor?

I have also cleaned up the sensors on bill acceptor with some rubbing alcohol.

1. It's better to use just a specific lens cleaner or just a slightly moist cloth rather than rubbing alcohol which can damage plastic optics. One of our members swore by using spit!

2. Those photos are too small. Please try to repost larger. PM me if you have trouble.

i selected WBA bill acceptor and " coin acceptor and COD board". Has anyone ever heard of the machines throwing this code (acceptor disabled) simply due to dirt bill sensors?? I will be getting some true lense cleaner soon.

When taking pictures of a CRT you will have problems with the lens on the camera syncing with the refresh rate of the CRT. To get around this I take a short video then take a screenshot of that video on the phone.
I just use a damp cloth to clean the lenses. No lens cleaner, no spit. I don’t think there is anything wrong with those but the lenses is just a piece of fine quality clear plastic.
I never heard of the machine disabling coin acceptor because a lens is dirty. It sounds to me like the wrong kind of acceptor is set…optical vs. mechanical.
