Converting a PE+ to running MAME using RETROPIE

Hi - I have a PE+ with Superboard.  Everything works fine running a Multi-Poker chipset. I was thinking of converting my machine by gutting the CPU, replacing the CRT with LCD and putting in a Rasberry Pi running MAME on Retropie.  I still want the coin acceptor, bill acceptor and hopper to work.  I know J Stolis helped write the MAME driver.  Does anyone know if it's possible to send and receive the pulses to those devices.  Handling the actual buttons seems easy using a USB decoder.  I was also wondering if I could add a printer - but don't think the printer driver was written in MAME.  Any thoughts?
