Accidentally exported data onto my Diagnostic key.

I'm new to all this. I, not thinking, accidentally exported data from my slot machine onto my Diagnostic key. After I realized what I did I rebooted the machine to see if I screwed up the diagnostic key, which of course I did, getting the Storage authentication failed. Luckily I have a windows XP machine here at work. Can I just delete the exported data off the Diagnostic key using windows XP? What folders and/or files should be on the Diagnostic key? Thanks for any help!!

If you never plugged the diag key into a machine newer than Win7, and only the machine.  Delete the files it added using WinXP.

A diag key should only have two folders and one certificate file on it like the screenshot below.

Thank you!! Just plugged it into the windows XP computer here at work and deleted the other folders that were added with the data export so I only have the 2 folders and certificate file! I'll try it again when I get home later from work and see what happens!

If your diag key boots the machine ok without error to the diagnostic menu.  Then your diag key is ok again.   

But this thread was not about the diag key failing authentication, it's about the SSD giving the Storage Authentication error when booting normally.   When you boot the machine with no diag key plugged in.  If you get the "Storage Authentication Failed" error.  Then the SSD on the machine got altered causing this. 

The SSD drive will get hosed and fail authentication in OS 14B versions if you boot with the ekey in and a flash disk with game loader files plugged in at the same time.  It will indeed auto load the games when you do that just as it did with OS 14A versions.  But afterwards you'll get "Storage Authentication Failed" if you do. 

I haven't tried using an older 14AXXX OS as these loading steps always work.  But I "believe" in older OS versions 14AXXX this wasn't a problem.  But in 14BXXX versions it will invalidate the SSD drive if you load it using the older method.  If I'm wrong, well, all I know is I've loaded about 50 machines with these steps using OS 14BOE which have never ever resulted in a Storage Authentication Error.  And have always fixed machines that had that error when booting from the SSD.


The only way to correct it if you get the error when booting normally, is doing a full wipe/reload the OS/reconfigure settings/reload and enabling your games.

If that's the case.   The steps fix that "Storage Authentication Failed" error when you boot the machine with no ekey or diag plugged in 100% of the time with with OS 014BOE, which is the recommended OS to use on Fam14 machines are:

Put the 014BOE OS file on it's own FAT32 formatted flash drive all by itself as you MUST have the OS file on it's own flash drive all by itself.   Your game files can all be on a different FAT32 formatted flash drive.


Plug in both the ekey and Diag key into the protected USB ports behind the metal cover and power on.

It will boot to diagnostics.  And in diagnostics, select to clear Safe Storage, NVRAM, and the hard drive.

Takes about 15 sec and when complete, shut down the machine.

Remove the diag key and replace it with a fat32 formatted usb flash drive with just the OS loader on it, so you just have that OS loader flash drive and your ekey plugged in.

Power on, and it will install the OS to the AVP SSD.  When it completes, it will prompt you to unplug the flash drive.  Unplug it and power off the machine, unplug the ekey as well.  Then power on the machine again with no ekey or anything plugged in.

System will initialize and put you into initial setup.   Plug in your ekey and complete initial setup, there are youtube videos on how to do initial setup configuration on an AVP.

When you complete that it will simply say "No Games Configured".

When you plug in the ekey, you can then plug in your USB flash with games and go into the Game > Manage Packages menu to install games, and then enable them. 

Then your drive shouldn't do that authentication error junk again as long as you only install games from the ekey menu after it has booted.    Only install games after boot by plugging in your ekey, Manage Packages, and then plug in your flash drive with your game loaders on it to load and enable them.
