Bally wave -help!
« on: August 22, 2025, 07:25:58 pm »
Hey guys , any help would be greatly appreciated!
trying to help a buddy out with a Bally wave ( which I’ve never personally had nor played around with)he had a nvram battery fault ,I changed the batteries then a soft clear
And everything seems to load up fine and game images start appearing on screen
But after I hit the white test button and set up screen comes up ,touch doesn’t work for me to be able to set the game back up ,I tried rebooting a few times but same result
🤦

I just realized the logic door micro switch has been wired closed by whoever worked on the machine before
I’ll have to go back one day to open up the switch
Does anybody know once I open switch up will it then let me use the touch to set up the game ?
Thanks in advance

Keep in mind that besides the batteries in the MPU, there is a battery on the backplane. Whenever a battery gets low, I change them all.

That backplane board battery is a real pain to get to. It is at the bottom of the machine under the MPU. You will practically have to stand on your head to get to it. See the photo attached.

The backplane battery is not causing this.  It would just give a door error when it's goes bad.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

I never had the problem you describe of the touch screen not working when you're at the setup screen.

When clearing, did you receive the success confirmation in green for each . . . NVRAM,  CRITICAL DATA PARTITIAN,  SCRATCH PARTITION,  SECONDARY OS PARTITION,  EEPROM ?

He is not sure the touch screen is even good. I suggested that he boot up with an install card and just see if he can calibrate the screen
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

I wonder if the setup screen is locked. After the clear, you should power down, remove the clear card, then power on. All while the main door remains open. Do not close the door.

I appreciate all the help!
Yes that is what I did to get to the setup screen
But wasn’t able to use the touch screen

I realized after leaving my buddy’s that the logic door micro switch is permanently wired closed .

My question is will that switch being wired closed  is that why it’s not letting me use the touch screen?
Another member said to go into calibration screen to see as if that doesn’t work than the touch or monitor is bad

I plan on going back to my buddies place on Friday to try everything you guys have come up with

My plan is to open up the micro switch first in the logic door
Then do the clear again and see what happens

I doubt the problem has anything to do with logic door switch. It seems most people jumper the switch so the door doesn't have to be locked closed. If you're not getting a logic error, that's not the problem.

If you are sure the NVRAM clear was successful, you received the screen clear verification, then I suspect the touch screen isn't working.

Verify the touch screen cable connection on the MPU. Is it plugged into the correct connector? (White cable #1 at rear in photo). Check the connection at the monitor end.
