IGT S2000 Triple Double Diamond

 I saw this machine listed on Craigslist and went to check it out. It worked great, so I paid the guy, loaded it up and took it home.

I wish it would’ve fallen off the truck, so I could’ve turned it in for the insurance.

When I got it home, the reels wouldn’t turn correctly (General Reel Tilt). After I monkeyed around with it a little, they worked fine…..for a few days, then I started having the same problem. Sometimes they worked fine, other times one (or more) would spin slowly and I’d get an error message. I think I saw four or five different messages and, since I knew nothing about slot machines, I had no idea how to resolve the problems. So, I took it to an ‘expert’ about 100 miles south of my house.

The ‘expert’ had no idea what he was doing – really. I had to show him how to open the door (at least three times). I should’ve figured it out then and just took the machine back home, but I was hoping he could fix the problem. No such luck. When he got done, the reels didn’t work any better, the bill validator wouldn’t work, there was no display on the VFD and the 25 cent light wouldn’t illuminate. He still charged a $50.00 ‘bench fee’, which I added to the half tank of gas and five hours of time it took to get there/back. 

So, I took it to another expert. After a few days, he called and said it was fixed. It was….sorta. The reels worked fine, but the VFD, denominator light and BV still didn’t work. He said he didn’t know I wanted those fixed. He also said he didn’t know how to fix them. So…..there went another $50.00, gas and time.

I took it home and pondered the thought of turning it into a fish aquarium, flower pot or just giving it to somebody I hate.  I couldn’t think of anyone I hate that much. It’s a good thing (I think) that I quit drinking whiskey years ago, or I would’ve shot the s**t out it by now. I still might.

I spent a LOT of time on the internet trying to find a fix. Did you know that Google has about 12 million responses to ‘S2000’? I didn’t before, but I do now.  Eventually, I found this site and – thanks to a whole lot of people, with a whole lot of knowledge, experience and patience, I was able to fix every problem except one; the bill validator.

I got a LOT of advice and tried every suggestion – several times. I also replaced the entire BV (WBA 12 SS transport and head), but still couldn’t get it to work. It will cycle when powered up, but the bezel doesn’t light up and it will not accept any bills. They simply will not go in – at all. One of the replacement units (WBA 13 SS) ‘almost’ worked. It cycled, the bezel lit up and it would accept bills into the transporter. However, it always kicked them right back out. I replaced that one with another WBA 12 SS, but it doesn’t work either. I think it was a bad unit, because it sounded terrible when it cycles up, it wouldn’t take any bills and the bezel didn’t light up, but it does accept/dispense quarters just fine.

Once in a great while, one or more reels will turn slow and I get the ‘General Reel Tilt’ msg.; I usually just open the door, turn the key and it resets fine; I also by-passed the meter, because it seemed to run a lot and make too much noise, but it can be easily reconnected.  All of the lights, candle and sounds work great, it looks like new (inside and out) and it has a locking base that it bolts to.   

The really frustrating part is that I have come so far with this (thanks to you folks), and I really think the BV issue is probably relatively simple (software, loose wire, etc.). However, if you’re a brain surgeon, brain surgery is relatively simple too. But I’m not a brain surgeon or a slot guy; I’m just really burned out on the whole thing, and this machine has to go. I’m not going to ‘try one more thing’, or spend any more time and money on it – I just want it out of the house.

It was manufactured in 2002 and the guy I got it from bought it from’ Slotmachines USA’ (Ohio) in 2010. I have the receipts, so I know that he paid almost $1500.00 for the machine, base and shipping.  I didn’t pay him that much but, after everything I had to buy/pay for, I have close to $1000.00 in it. I know I won’t get all of my money back, but I’m trying to cut my losses as much as possible, so just make a fair offer. I’m not even going to try to ship this thing, so you’ll have to pick it up (central Illinois); I will help you load it onto a truck.

wow someone will still pay $1000 for a s2000  , the guy you took it to was no expert imo if he didn't fix everything that was  wrong.  general reel tilt might be a main door that  not sitting right when closed , I'm sure you'll get some great help from this group and have a great working game

Yeah, I didn't really consider him an expert, which is why I wrote it as 'expert', but that's what they both represented to be. The first encounter was my fault. When he didn't even know how to open the door, I should've figured it out and left then, but I guess I was just hoping he knew the electronics part. Obviously, I guessed wrong.

The second guy probably is pretty good - with older machines. He had several older slots, as well as some juke boxes, coke machines, etc. that he was working on/restoring and they looked really nice. I played a few of the slots he said he restored, and they worked very well. He told me he had never worked on a S2000 before and wasn't familiar with a lot of the codes/programming. Unlike the first goofball, he was upfront about his limitations. 

As far as the value, it originally sold for $,1000 in 2010, but they're still going for $650 - $1,000 in the central Illinois, Ohio, Missouri areas. You can do a quick Google search and see the prices. As for me, I'm hoping to get somewhere around $550 - $600.00.

Do you think that is too much; if so, what should I expect to get for it?

Craigslist will be your friend on this one.
I think you'll get your $550.00 to $600.00 if it's all working good and comes with a stand.
Probably not from the guys on here, but from someone looking for a cool gameroom or mancave item on craigslist.
Most guys on here would pay something like $150-$350 for this one, but most of us are cheap bastards

IMHO if you want a machine a little easier to understand and work on look for a WMS 40x dotmation game, super fun, I've had lots of them, always been good to me.
