Wait wait wait... we need more info!
Was this a set up shot for an ad?
But what was the ad for?
What is he pouring? It looks like milk, or cream. Too small for a coffee pot.
I see a patch on the girl the says "Call for Philip Morris."

Ohhhhhh yes! He's flanked by women that seem to be "eagerly" looking up at him.  :drool_obsessed:

If you get into South America and many parts of Europe it was common to have a pitcher of warm milk often kept next to the stove to add to the coffee.
In the more rural areas this would be directly from the cow and totally unpasteurized. In current times, the waiters will walk around with two carafes - one with coffee and one with warm milk.
The coffee is also more espresso based and quite dark not like the filtered drip coffees we serve in North America. I like my coffee black, but when I am in Brazil or the Dominican I am either drinking it very short or with a ton of sugar as this stuff straight will take the bend out of a spoon.

Café Americano - popular Starbucks drink - was actually a Italian slur against Americans. The story which varies in origin has a large American (likely in a white suit if you like Sofia Loren movies) ordering a coffee after a meal and receiving a small espresso. The tourist sends it back and says he wants a proper cup of coffee, this confuses the waiters and they remake it for him. Eventually they look to clarify and he explains how American coffee is made. This was likely a percolator, and having none of this sort of equipment - the restaurant pours the two shots of espresso in a cup and fills it with hot water. The tourist then is thrilled with the coffee as its his first after some time. He asks the waiter what its called and thus the Cafe Americano was born. Variations of the story suggest that it was espresso and dishwater.

Great picture by the way. You need to put a caption with the name of your father . Hemmingway once wrote - a man has two deaths. The first comes at his passing and the second when his name is last spoke.

Thanks everyone, my father was asked to grab a pitcher and pose for the camera. It was random, he was close by and they needed a Navy enlisted for the shot. Smoking cigarettes was part of society, and the military was no exception. This cigarette company was one of the top selling ones in that era, and the military was a big part of that advertising campaign.
