Picked up a Black Jack machine over the weekend. It had some monitor issues, but other than that it was a working machine. I brought it home and went to cleaning the IC's and I discovered the PMPP chip had a broke pin. Now this may be my problem, but I took the chip out of my Draw poker board that isnt working. It fixed the problem. But now I am have the cards show up scrambled some times as shown in the picture. Is this because I am using the incorrect PMPP chip or is there a setting I need to look into? Thanks in advance for any help.

Those Fortune coin with blackjack are quite desirable.
Can’t you just solder a leg onto the original chip and use it?

What series of Fortune do you have, a picture of the board and the broken chip would help us help you.

When I break a leg, i typically solder it back on, then gently insert it into an IC socket holder then use the IC socket holder in the machine.
Some people use ZIFF socket holders that makes the insertion into the holder easy and less tramatic for the chip as you don't have to press the chip into the holder.
This way I no longer risk further damaging the chip if I have to remove it again as I just remove the socket holder.

I didnt think about soldering it. but I used the chip off the board from the previous thread. the one the game came with was unmarked. the one I put it in was the 90904490

An Eprom reader should help you identify it. Typically IGT put the chip number into the header info.

I have a blackjack FC but honestly I don’t know which chip we are talking about.

this is the chip that came from the board. It just says AMP on it. The last board is from my draw machine and the chip location and the chip I moved over into the BJ machine is circled in red.

Ok I will pull my board but honestly this is such an easy fix. If it was me I would be done with this and just move on. That is not an eprom so you would need to find someone who happens to know what it is and happens to have one. Plus, you don’t really know for sure if that IC is the cause of your problems.

Since the jumper is in a socket already just do this:
1. put a component leg into the socket where that leg is missing.
2. Insert the IC/jumper bank into the socket
3. Solder the leg to the exposed leg there
4. Insert the socket into the board

One final note, it is really important to take pictures before you pull ICs. In some instances the legs are cut intentionally by the manufacturer because they serve a function that is not needed by the game and in some instances might even cause problems.

That appears to be a simple jumper. Unless there is an IC under the top part.
Just jump that leg or if you are really hung up on it replace it with DIP switch.

And I found a hand drawn map of the jumpers in the file system, probably drawn by Badbaud 30 years ago! LOL
Doesn’t look like the jumpers are any different for poker or blackjack.
All should be jumped except 2 and 7

so more than likely having the other chip from my draw board shouldn't be effecting the cards not showing correctly? I mean it shows the added total correctly, its just showing the images of the card wrong.

You are saying chip. Are you referring to that jumper? If so, no, that will not impact the image. Unless the one with the broken leg happens to control some type of image control. Who knows.

If you put all of the original eeproms back into the board what exactly are the symptoms?
I keep going back to my original response….there are capacitors and pots on that board that need to be tested. Changing chips around all day will not fix those issues. The board is 40 years old and has original capacitors on it. It’s highly likely that at least one capacitor is bad. When I sent mine in several years ago one of the big caps was shot.
At the very least you should spray some electronics cleaner (NOT a lubricant) on the color pots and clean them.

Awesome thank you Chris. I appologize, I have a small knowledge of electronics so I know im using the incorrect terminology. Honestly got into this on accident. found a draw poker machine and got it for my girlfriend a few weeks ago..... Now I have 3 draw poker machines and the BJ. Always been a huge fan of BJ and based on things Ive read they are kinda harder to find.
I greatly appreciate your help. I think Im going to reach out to see about having these 2 boards gone over and repaired. I really like the history on my second draw machine. It comes from O'Shaes in Reno then went to circus circus in Vegas then over to Boulder City. My other draw comes from Caesars in Tahoe. I greatly appreciate all you've done.

I understand, We all started as starters! These really are great games, very robust.
We need to keep in mind that they are 40 years old. As such, there are a lot of things we can check on our own but you need to have the tools to do it.
A capacitor tester is really important and even better is a tester that can test capacitors in-circuit. Otherwise you need to pull the cap.
Also, if you have a digital multimeter with a diode tester you can test mny ICs on your own or at least check for shorts.

Learn how to read basic schematics and you will learn how to troubleshoot circuits.
