Old Ticket Paper Causes Printer Comm Error

I installed a new Transact Epic Edge printer in my Bally Alpha 2 Wave machine. Everything is now working fine but I wanted to note an issue I had. The machine was giving intermittent "Printer Comm Errors". It always happened after printing a ticket. The ticket would print, then in about 10 seconds the error would appear. Opening and closing the door would clear it. Then I might be able to print a couple of tickets without issue, then on the next ticket the error would return. It was then that I realized I was using ticket stock which was nearly 10 years old. It was very white and free from yellowing. It looked good and printed well, but the printer didn't seem to like it. After replacing that old paper with new, I have not had another error. It works perfectly now. It seems this printer is sensitive to paper quality. Maybe sensor errors in detecting the black timing marks on the paper?

I don't know if this issue happens with other printers, but it might be good to keep this in mind. Order some fresh ticket paper once in a while.
