My mistake about the red lever. That switch was for casino use, it had security wires to it so they would know when cash box was removed. I gave him settings for 1271 and he is using 1274. I was guessing they would be the same or close. Also, the BV is not making the proper noise as it is not turning the cash can. Loosen the 2 thumb screws and lift the red lever up and the BV should set down in the back. Then retighten the thumb screws. Next on the right side of the unit there is a plug put it on and off a few times. I have had them not make good contact.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

tried resetting the BV with the arm up. It did set down in the back. Don't see a plug on the right side. Video of results. Also a pic of the dip switches to make sure they are correct.

I'm not close to a S+ right now. On most there is a label on the MPU tray that tells you about the dip switches. I guess I've been lucky on the machines I've done. Never had to change dip switches. Your zero flashing in coins played is saying it is ready for credit to play.

I really appreciate all your help. After I properly set the BV and had the arm up, it sounds like the correct noise like yours. However, the BV still doesn't work. I think maybe this machine has been set to not recognize a BV nor a coin mechanism either. I did use a ram clear chip and a set chip. Is it possible that there could be another chip or something that needs to be changed? I think this because of 2 things: 1) the BV sounds correct and seems to be OK but is not accepting bills, and 2) I can't set the coin hopper to anything except 300 coins (no matter what the dip switch setting is). Seems to me we're possibly dealing with another setting or chip somewhere. ? It does have a label on the MPU tray and it says to set the dip switches at on for programable hopper set. They are on. I also tried them at other settings with the same results. It always comes back to 300.

Your latest video is set to private in YouTube so I can't see it, FYI.  I would be interested to see (well, really hear) how the validator sounds when you turn it on.

I will say that in your previous video (Reply #54), while you could hear the validator cycling, the fact that it was cycling repeatedly indicates that the transport was NOT meshing up correctly with the cash can.  It tries three or four times, then gives up.  If that happens, it is not ready to accept a bill and won't enable itself, even if all of the settings are set correctly.

In the video that I can't see, is the power-up cycling of the bill validator still as it was in your previous video?  If so, that's where we need to focus our attention.

Play therockinelvis' video a couple of times to hear the difference between his validator and yours.  His cycles a couple of times to get everything moving, then it makes a final noise indicating that everything is lined up and good to go.  Listen to the validator in his video compared to yours.  Yours, at least in your Reply #54, is trying repeatedly to get ready but isn't meshing up correctly with the cash can.  After trying three or four times, it just gives up.

DNC 200 start up

Sorry I didn't get a chance to look at the PSR for the SP1274 until just now.  I can solve a couple of mysteries.

1) The SP1274 does not listen to the DIP switches at all.
2) The SP1274 defaults to a hopper limit of 300 coins if you try to set it lower than that.  Yuck.

"Hopper Limit <7> [1]   Determines when hand pays and hopper pays occur.  If set to fewer than 300 coins, the game automatically defaults to 300 coins upon exiting the self test."

I will say that if you had coin handling (a comparator and a coin head to direct coins into the comparator, and a hopper), I believe your machine would be ready to accept coins at the point you've gotten it to, which is good.

Let's not worry about the settings right now and focus on getting your validator to accept bills.  We can get you a different SP chip at some point that will let you set the hopper limit to zero, but that's not what's preventing the validator from working, so let's focus our energy there for the moment.

Great post Knagl. I suspected the 1274 for the hopper settings but like you am more focused on BV. Once he gets it going then worry about a 1271 or something. I have had the old BV like these act up and have to turn them by hand from where they have sat so long. If you loosen the thumbscrews and push red handle down then unplug 3 harnesses. You can pull the whole unit out. Once out, on the left side you will see the transport motor. Turn that gear by hand and see if everything moves. Sometimes the belts get stuck from sitting or stuck in the bent position they have formed by not being used.

Thanks again guys. I am reposting the BV operating after the adjustments mentioned earlier. I did check all plugs and connections.  I believe that the chip is the problem. I have also removed the BV and it does turn freely. I think I will need a 1271 instead of a 1274 and that may even correct the BV problem. You guys know a lot more than me so whatever you think. I still am not sure if the dip switches are set to on or off.

If you are really serious about fixing this machine you should do the following:  and it probably will set up back around 200.00 to do it right:  first off, the bill acceptor you have is FIRST GENERATION TECH., you have no way of knowing if the head works, or the transport works, we think the power supply supply is good, but there is a second part to the power supply we haven't been able to test. even if it did all work you are limited to what bills the unit will accept and upgrading it to the latest acceptance level is difficult because you have to find the right chip with the latest version of bills AND THE PROPER IDO PROTOCOL.
I would upgrade to a WBA-12, this will take you up to the new ten, and all the previous new currencies.  you would need the following, the head and transport unit with duckbill for S+, the transport shelf holder and wiring harness, a power supply, and cash can. they all fit into the same holder as the unit you now have.

it appears that you have all the front end items for coin use except the following, a coin head and bracket, and a chute to direct the coins into the hopper. you will also need a coin comparator and hopper.

and LASTLY (this is a personal preference- I would use a SP-731 chip, )  it is so user friendly and so easy to use, everything is done with the buttons on the front panel, you never have to use the jackpot reset to enter into menus or cycle through the menus, its all done with the buttons.

if you want to try and get the current unit going, make sure the the cable that is plugged into the power supply harness for the bill acceptor is also plugged into J-6 on the motherboard, this is the 4 pin connector that is the comms between the bill acceptor and the cpu. get into the test diagnostics, go to the input test that shows a 10_1 as the first test available, use the jackpot reset key and cycle to test number 27_1, the bill acceptor bezel should be lit, and you should be able to put a dollar bill into the acceptor, it will pull it in, hold it for a few seconds then return the bill.

Hope this helps

I cycled to 27-1 but could only get 27-0. It does take the bill there and does like you ,said..takes it in for a few seconds and then spits it out. It also changes to 27-1 for a second after it comes out and then goes back to 27-0.

if all that operates, then it should accept it with the door closed,  did the bezel lights come on during your test,  if no, lamps could be out, test in the denom lamp socket, the board could be bad, or the connection is not plugged in or there could be a bad ground from the max bet button to the lamp board.

He has no bezel to light up. Good call on the mother board. I had not thought about that. There is a diagram on here showing what each port controls. Very possible that plug is not connected to the mother board (the one on the bottom of the machine floor). I think it is a 6 wire connector to the left side.

it does accept the bill with the door open and with the door closed at 27-0. I don't know what the bezel light is.

Your missing that piece on the front of your door that goes around the BV duck bill. It has 2 lights to let you know the BV is ready. Not having it is not a problem and doesn't effect it. This is the board I'm talking about. Pay no attention to the burn mark. The plug your looking for is to the left

Don't you also have to change the door to go to a wba from a dbv.  I thought the dbv opening was a bit different than the wba?

the 27 test would never work if the bill acceptor comm plug at J-6 was not inserted!  so because the test did work, indicated that it was plugged in. WHY THE UNIT IS ACCEPTING BILLS WITH THE DOOR CLOSED????  when the door is closed the machine should get out of the diagnostic mode and enter into the play mode??

Rick,  no not really, all the main units are a direct replacement, ( inside the cabinet) if the black bezel was an old version, then updating that would cure the opening problem, if the door opening would not accept the new black bezel a simple hacksaw, dremel tool, or ? to increase opening. Have done many of them.
along those lines,  sometimes, the duck bill  has to be shaved on the right hand side as well!

Jim

Since it is now pulling the bill in then returning it. Does the 145 have dip switches to keep it from taking a 1? I think that is what he tried in the video. If it is taking a 1 and returning it, try an old little head 20

it will not take any bill in when the zero is flashing. It will accept then return when set on 27-0. Only then. should this reading be 27-1 and how can I set that? It does go to 27-1 after it sends the bill back but only for a second and then reverts back to 27-0. ?
