Nickel stot identification and troubleshooting

Hello,

I just picked up this nickel slot and would love some help with identifying the model and year. It currently does not register coins. The previous owner said it was working fine until the machine was moved. During the move it was laid down on its back. Any recommendations on where to start would be greatly appreciated. I will keep updating this post with my findings as I go.

After further inspection, I found this. That doesn't look good. I checked the fuses and they all look good.

I poked around and got the machine to play. I was getting payouts, then the reels started acting funny — either not spinning or spinning backward (I think). The arms that release and stop the reels were gummed up, so I worked them a bit until they were springing back in place. The reels are spinning and stopping now, but it doesn't appear to be paying out anymore. I hit two cherries and a bell and it didn't pay out.

Played some more, and this one paid out $1.05. Is that correct?

You taught me something I've never done here... using the embed code for images! I embed YouTube videos here time to time when other member post and I just embedded an image for Halloween in our senior section. Never thought of doing it this way though. I'm sure you know but you can just add photos directly from the green Attachments and other options link which eliminates that two step process of having to add the images to your folder first.

Someone should chime in on your EM machine soon.

Thanks, shortrackskater! I'm looking forward to learning all bout this machine. Ultimately, I'll likely start pulling things apart, cleaning contacts, removing old sticky lubricant, and relubricating. I ordered the Owner's Pictorial Guide for the Bally Slot Machine book, and it will be here on Wednesday.

This machine is a 952-A which is basically an 809 with a double progressive. Looking at the door harness plugs, I’d highly suggest repinning the burnt pins and replacing the entire body on both sides. As you have found, these machines often are found stuck in place with old grease. Before doing any troubleshooting, I would thoroughly oil ever part in the reel mech that pivots, turns, rolls, etc. make sure that everything that isn’t pinned to a shaft, is able to easily move on the shaft, including any tubular spacers. Next clean all the switch contacts. A thin piece of rough cardboard works well here with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Avoid anything abrasive. For the “Beau Plugs”(the large plugs behind the hopper and reel mechanism), I use MG Chemicals 404B. Spray it on both sides of the Beau plugs and work the units in and out several times and repeat a few more times. You’ll find the units eventually slide in like butter. The manual you ordered is good to use in getting familiar with the machines but won’t give a lot of detail specific to that machine. Most likely needs a good cleaning. Basically anywhere power is passed via contacts.
Best to do one section or switch stack at a time then test. Cleaning multiple sections will cause aggravation if something stops working.

I usually start with the coin relay bottom left of the reels chassis on machines that don’t run at all.
