[HELP] CDS / VIG-II Slot Machine – No 12V at Slot Display, PSU Replaced, Logic Board Works

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some help diagnosing an issue on a CDS (Casino Data Systems) machine running a VIG-II Version 1.2 logic board. I’ve been troubleshooting it for a while and have not been able to narrow the problem down, but I’d love advice from someone familiar with these, as I have been using ChatGPT to help and no success so far

🟥 Problem Summary

The machine boots, lights work, and the logic board LEDs show activity, but the front slot display is completely dead.

I replaced the lower PSU, verified all voltages, and traced everything back.
Now I’m stuck with no 12V reaching the slot display connector (J38) only 5v even though the main board is receiving 12V.

🟦 What Works
   •   Machine powers on
   •   main board gets proper 5V and 12V
   •   PSU outputs 5.1V and 12V under load
   •   All fuses on reel shelf seem to be good
   •   Logic board LEDs:
   •   DS16 flashing
   •   DS17 & DS18 & DS19 lit
   •   5V is seems to be present everywhere it should be
   •   12V IS present at the main power input on the backplane

🟧 What Doesn’t Work
   •   Slot display randomly it will display but rare
   •   The blue 12V wire at the slot display shows 0V or exactly 5.0V, never 12V
   •   The 12V never reaches J38 (Slot Display) or the connector on the slot shelf
   •   Replacing the PSU did NOT restore 12V to the display
   •   Logic board reseating/cleaning didn’t change anything

🟨 What I’ve Tested

1. PSU

Replaced with a new arcade PSU (5V/12V).
Voltages tested stable under load:
   •   5.05–5.12V
   •   11.9–12.1V

2. Harness
   •   Verified continuity on all display harness wires except 12V
   •   5V and ground make it to the display

3. Backplane Power Input

The backplane does receive 12V on the blue wire from the PSU.

4. Backplane Display Output

J38 Slot Display connector:
   •   Ground = OK
   •   5V = OK
   •   12V = 0V (or exactly 5V)

5. With Logic Board REMOVED
   •   Backplane still receives 12V
   •   J38 STILL only has 5V on the 12V pin
   •   So the logic board is not the display power I would assume

You can e mail them to yourself and it usually will give you the option to reduce the size. If you have a computer, most have built in image reduction. Or just change the settings on your phone and reduce photo size. Just don't go too small. Try to go 300kb to just under 1mb. We are working on changing this.
