Bally V-1000

 I am Working On a Bally V-1000 Poker Machine, When I power it on, I have to turn the key 1 time to get it into Game Ready mode. Is this Normal? I can get a Picture of the screen right after power up next time I am over to look at the Machine again.

I have Tried to get the Customer to get a Newer Machine that is easier to work on and have more Parts available, but he has Sentimental reasons to get this machine running again. I am trying!

If you can get a V1000 to start and play using any method, consider it a win.
It is virtually impossible to troubleshoot them and there are not any techs who will work on them.
99% of them get donated to parts when they stop working simply because it would cost far more than they are worth to attempt to repair.

If there is a battery on one of the boards you could test/replace it, that might be why it requires a key clear to start.

I don’t know why Bally needed 3 or 4 boards to run a poker game, other manufacturers had single stacks by this era. It would be interesting to know that history.

As you said, there are tons of other machines out there from the same era that are far more reliable and easier to maintain.

Something to check
Measure the VUR signal on the power supply with a DVM. (there is a test point on lower left of supply board under BIG BLUE)
If it's not at least 9.0 VDC it might be a weak"Motor Starting Cap" that's mounted to the back of chassis
I've ran across several bad ones on V1000 & V2000 chassis that caused odd issues.

Recalled something I saw awhile back on these 4-board stacks.  Had one that seemed to have no power-on reset signal.  It needed to have the reset button pressed in order to work after power-up.  I wasn't able to find a power-up reset circuit on the schematic.  Don't know if I missed it or if they relied on something else.
