Bally E2212 Sound

Does anyone know the correct cable orientation on the IO board for the sound ribbon cable at J6?  The connector does not have pin 1 marked.  This picture from https://ramegoom.com/john/E2000/IO_installed_behind_reels.jpg shows it as up.  My machine has it down and based on the crease, it had been that way a long time.  The remegroom pic shows some ribbon discoloration implying that it was possibly improperly installed for the pic. 

The sound board's test button works in the ribbon up position but doesn't when down.  Neither orientation creates sound in the game play.

Attached my sound board pic and IO board as reference.

When orienting the ribbon cable, it should connect Pin 1 on the I/0 board to to Pin 1 on the sound board.

To find Pin 1 on each, look for the following:

I/0 Board - Looking at the I/0 board with J1,J2,J3 header pins oriented to the top, the sound plug is at the bottom right. Now looking at the sound plug, Pin 1 is at the bottom right.

Sound Board - Looking at the sound board, Pin 1 is marked with “1”.

You also need a buffer board on the I/O board to connect the 3'+ ribbon cable on it to the ribbon connector on the sound board.

Jeeper, that puts my red line down as it was originally. In that position, the sound test button doesn’t work which I assume is normal.

Badaud, here’s a pic of the third board. Ribbon goes IO to Sound to AS2936. Is that the “buffer board?”

That is a interface board for a larger LED display, not sound.

Here is a picture of the buffer board mounted on the I/O board.
The small 5 pin connector is the power connection for the  on board chips power supply need.

Thanks. Not found on my machine and can’t seem to find a board reference on the web. Do you have the reference or a source?

Ya, it plugs into that 16 pin DIP header on the I/O board then a 3 foot long 16 pin DIP cable plugs into the connector on the buffer board which plugs into the sound board 16 pin DIP plug.

How do I get a buffer board?  Do you have a board number or a source for it?

We only have around 50 of them. I'll try to get some tested and working ones onto our EBAY store at KLAR Amusements.
You will also need a 3 foot or longer 16 pin DIP cable with male pins at both ends.
