SSD Drive with SAVP

I have 4 SAVP machines that I replaced with SSD drives a couple years ago.  Boot time is improved, but there is a random side effect of getting a "Boot record not found" or something like that occasionally.  When this happens if I reboot the machine enough times eventually it will boot up.  I am guessing it has something to do with the compatibility of the SSD drive I got (they are all using the same one).  Does anyone have a recommendation of an SSD drive that plays nice with SAVP?  More important, one that is still available for purchase?

A horrible time to buy memory or SSD's of ANY kind.

Prices are 4 times as high as they were a year ago for a large number of them! 

I bought a pair of 32GB DDR4 SODIMM's for $45 a year ago.  The exact same SODIMM's are now $180 EACH!  It's insane!

If anyone hasn't scrolled the prices of RAM and SSD's on Amazon lately.  Have a look, you'll be shocked.

The Kingston A400 SSD's have always been good and reliable.   They stopped making the 120GB ones which is just the right size, and they were under $20.   After they quit making them they doubled in price.  But the 240GB ones were then under $20 as they still make those ones.   So why buy the smaller ones?  lol

Same 240GB SSD..  Was about $20 a year ago, now $68!  I don't see anyone buying a 240GB SSD for that price!


I'd jump on ebay while you can.  You might still find Kingston A400 240GB SSD's (or even the smaller 120GB one) that are "new" or "open box" for a reasonable price, like $25.

Those A400's are the same regardless of size and work just as well.  I've never had one fault or fail.  But I wouldn't buy a used one.  Only new or open box.

I have no idea if prices will keep going up or eventually go back to normal.  Remember those tariffs that "sellers will eat the cost of and it makes the country bilions?" 

If anyone actually believed that ridiculous claim was true, now they know that was a lie from the start and it's only hitting now that existing stocks have been depleted.  So it might be a few years before memory and SSD's go back to reasonable prices.

So you've used the 240gb ones with no problem as well?  A model that has been used by others with no problems is exactly what I was looking for.  I'll pick some up on ebay.  Thanks!

Yep, no problems at all.  I've also used various 512GB Samsung drives with no issues.   

But they're a bit too expensive when you don't need those kind of drives.  But the drive itself can be much larger than you'll ever use and it won't cause issues.  The Kingston ones work great.
