Need help! S+ Plus dreaded 3100 error won't clear

First off I have read every help topic on this message board and I still couldn't figure it out. She was working after I had a tech do the RAM clear yesterday. I had insert coin lit up but in my excitement I didn't put the coin dispenser back in the machine and tried to play. I opened the machine and put the coin dispenser in with the power on and I heard the 1 credit sound tone and my tilt light came on and 3100 / 1 / 0 are flashing on the display.

Now, I can turn it on a press the test button to place it in a test mode. 0,1 & 2 I don't know what they do. But test 3 is the coin dispenser and it works! It spits out 10 coins as it should.

Test 4 is the reel/denomination payout for each win

Test 5 is reel test.

Test 6 unknown what that does.

Test 7 unknown what that does.

Test 8 all 8's on the screen

Test 9 test all led's if memory serves me right.

So it passes the reel test, the denomination test, and the 10 coin drop no problem.

I've only had this machine 3 weeks but the tech told me yesterday that the door sensors are hard wired. So when I open the door I simulate the door being open by removing the male plug from the female plug. When I'm ready to shut the door I just plug it back in.

3100 code is just an extra coin paid.  Simulate opening the door and close it and it should clear and be ready to play.

I have simed open/close door and it doesn't reset. I honestly don't think the door sensor hard wire is working.

You have to open the door to clear the 3100.  The door optics and/or bypass is only problem most probably.  Get the door optics fixed. The 25 cents light under reels will go out when door is open.

Go to the s plus FAQ section, how to guides, s plus flip cards.

These explain all your tests. What numbers you should see in the windows etc.

Go to the input test 10-1,10-2, 10-0 in the winner paid window, use the service button to advance to 13-1, if the door optics are working, the 1 should be toggling between 0-1 , then unplug the optic bypass, the number should stop toggling, if this happens , then the door optics are working.

Hopefully it reset the 3100 code,

Thank you I found 13-0 menu and my sensor is going from 13-0 to 13-1 but it's not flashing back and forth. It's either 13-0 or 13-1

Unfortunately this didn't clear the 3100 code.

What do you have to do to get in the test mode?
Do you have to unplug the optics bypass to do this?
Is the cash can switch bypassed?

To do the 13-1 test you would have to do the following:
With the optic bypass connected, turn on machine, wait for it to display the 3100 code, now unplug the optic bypass, go to the input test 10-1 using the white test button, use the service button to go to 13-1, now connect the optic bypass, the display should show the number 1 changing to a 0 and then back to 1 -0-1–0-1 and continue doing this until you unplug the optic bypass, if it does not do this, then something is wrong in the door optic circuit. The machine will never reset or work until the door optics works as described.


How was the door optic bypass? Did they run wires over from the door optic to the cabinet optic?
Post some pictures so we could see what they did to bypass the optics.

As was stated earlier, 3100 code is a extra coin paid out, not an empty hopper!

I'll make a video of what it is doing. Because I can get the 13 - 1 and 13 - 0 just not flashing. It seems that the previous owner bypassed the optic's. Let me show you in a quick video.

It's hard to tell exactly what was done for the bypass, never did one, so I will have to figure it out. you claimed the machine worked, did a ram clear, probably had to clear a 61, 61-1, so you would think the optics worked.

from your video, they are not working, what is that connector lying in the coin tray?

until you get the door optics working, the machine will never work, why did they bypass the optics in the first place, maybe you should get a set of optics for the door and cabinet and restore it to factory.

omg...That's NOT how you bypass the door optics!   
When you open the door, anything in the [Winner Paid] and [Credit] windows, should immediately go out, and [Coins Played] window will immediately change to a zero.


In your case, that [3100] in the Winner Paid window should go out immediately when you pull up on the door latch.
The problem is that your door optics aren't wired correctly.
Everything is staying on the display... 

To effectively bypass your door optics,  you need to run a wire from the purple wire on the door back to a cherry switch.
On the cabinet side, you wire the red wire back to the cherry switch.
The door is now opened /closed by the plunger on the cherry switch - no more optics needed.

The .25 cent denominational lamp stays ON ALL the time...the door has nothing to do with it.
It runs on a totally separate circuit.

So how do I fix this? I'm really good at wiring and soldering etc. But I'm new to slot machines and what does what. I don't know what a cherry switch is or how to run it.

Do you have a video showing this?

I ordered new optics for the machine but I don't know if they are going to work because of this current hack job. I have only had the machine for 3 weeks now and got it like this.

Your two wired harness for the door emitter has a purple wire and a green wire.
You need to simply splice a piece of wire about 4 feet long to it.
Run it back along the door behind the buttons under the deck, across under the reel shelf then up against the right-hand wall of your cabinet above the reel shelf.
That wire will get soldered to the outside tab on your cherry switch.
A cherry switch normally has 6 tabs...which is actually two sets of 3 tabs.
So pick a set of 3 tabs and solder your 4 foot wire to an outside tab.

Moving on, splice a 1 foot piece of wire to the cabinet harness.
The cabinet side optic receiver harness has 3 wires...two of which are green, the other single one is red.
You will be using the red wire.
Splice your 1 foot wire to the red wire and solder it to the outside tab of your cherry switch.
Now, when you close the door, a flat plate will push the cherry switch's plunger in.
That will close the circuit you've made, and the MPU computer will think that the door, is closed.
Your door optics are now effectively, bypassed.

I never made a video of this.
If you cannot understand this, just wait for your door optics to come in, simply plug them into your machine. and you're done.

When your bypass or door optics are working, just open and close the door once, to get rid of the [3100] extra coin paid out error.
Service your coin hopper brakes.

Just a quick update I change the door sensors and cleared the 3100 code and the machine goes to play mode but won't accept coins or bills.

I'm over it! Who wants this thing? 🤷‍♂️

It's not in "Play Mode" if it doesn't accept a coin....does the "Insert Coin" light come ON?
Also, if the yellow bill bezel light is OFF, the bill acceptor isn't ready to take a bill.

You think you're going to learn everything about your S+ in 3 weeks? 

1st of all, whoever you got the machine from did a hack job with the door optics.
You've fixed it with a new set of optics. Good job. 

Now you have to get the machine to 1st start to accept coins.
Do you have a Sample coin in the coin comparitor?
If so, good.
Where is the coin falling down to...the coin tray, the hopper bowl or to the drop below?

Is the bulb for the "Insert Coins" good?
Check it by swapping with the bulb that's stuck in the .25 cent denomination bulb - to see if it's any good.
While you're at it checking bulbs, check the two bulbs from the yellow bill bezel light under the button deck - to see those are any good.

Finally, do you have a SET chip to re-enable the bill acceptor?
I'll go watch your videos and see if I can spot anything to help you out.

The "insert coin" light is lit up. The coin comparator led is not on. I've put my phone in the machine and recorded it with the door closed and it doesn't light up. Yes the yellow light is off on the bill acceptor. I checked those lights and they work.

No I don't think I can learn everything in three weeks. But I have another machine inbound and I need this one gone so I have the space.

Yes there is a sample coin in the comparator. When you put the coin in the coin falls straight thru to the coin tray. The comparator is not working so the coin falls straight thru.

The bulb for insert coins is on and working.

Yes I have a set chip to re-enable the bill acceptor. NO I don't have the scope to use that because the menu's are confusing at best.

Re-seat the cashbox properly.
The cashbox stacker motor should NOT run that long to find Home position.

When you closed the door, the number in the [Coins Played] window didn't go out - your door optics are still not working.

Yes my door just stays at 13 - 0 it does not flash like that. So we're back to bad optics?

I reseated the cash box and the bill validator just runs and runs.

Now when I take it out of test mode the white light on the top of the candle lights up solid but no codes.

Wish you guys were here to see this in person. It baffles the mind...

I'm a newbie... but the far left button (change on my machine) is what turns the top candle light on / off...   have you tried hitting that button to turn off the light?

That worked on the light! It was the change light on! Lol one less thing to worry about!
