CPU Chip missing on 94014 Ultra Board
« on: March 15, 2026, 12:50:50 pm »
I'm trying to fix a new to me machine and it looks like the board is missing a CPU chip.
Can anyone send a picture or confirm the missing chip is the same as the top chip?

The schematics i'm looking at seem to suggest that.

Your missing the main CPU.

See the chip layout below.

The sound and main CPU have the same part number.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I ordered one and I'll get it installed.  Then I'll see what other issues pop up.
12v and 30v test pins have power.  Nothing on the the front 5v test pins.

The two resistor array's (RA22 and RA18) were also broken.  I've got a few 10K ohm SIP9 ordered
I'm missing them on the schematic.  Can someone post which page it is on?  I want to make sure they are installed correctly.

You've found one of many differences between your Ultra and the Ultra Sunrise schematics.

Arrays RA18, RA19, RA21, RA22, RA23, RA24 and RA25 are all 10Kx8. The common pin #1 (5vdc) is indicated on the board.

RA18 and RA22 are on the address-data busses for the main CPU. Use RA's 35-36-37-42 on the Sunrise schematic page 74 as reference.

Next update:
I got the CPU added and replaced two broken resistor arrays

I now have 4 main board LEDs blinking instead of just one on solid.

I don't have any displays on the door working yet.  Does anyone have any ideas for the next steps?

You'll need to do a master reset to clear the ram, read the dip switches and store the new settings. Power up while holding the two switches down for about 5 seconds. You should hear the divertor solenoid on the door pop, some tones from the speaker and the 4 LEDs on the CPU board will strobe left to right then right to left continuously. The door LED display will then show any current alarms.

See the attached from page 19 in the manual.

I have read about a reset and I tried that.  Still just 4 blinking LED's  They all blink on and off at once.
The coin comparitor does nothing wile the board is slid into place.  If the board is out and I power it up the comparitor will click.

The UV proms did not have any labels on them.  I wonder if they are blank.  Is there a repository for the programs anywhere?

If a master reset doesn't restore play then yes it's possible that one of the Eproms is corrupt. If they aren't totally trashed you can pull the chips and read the program to identify the chip number.

Is there a repository? Not to my knowledge. I have the master list and can tell you what the chip numbers should be.

Uniman was a reliable source but he no longer responds to emails.

If you post a photo of the award glass I'll see what I can find.

So you should have the following chip numbers;

GAME 95034-3L
SYSTEM 94033
SUPPORT 94014

I have the 94033 & 94014 but no 95034. If you could pull the three chips, read them and send me the files I'll compare the first two with mine and then see if the 95034 will run in my test machine. No reader? You can send me the three Eprom chips for verification. I'll continue to look for the 95034 file.

I didn’t have a reader for that chip. I ordered one and it will be here Sunday.
I’ll pull the chips and read them.

When I pulled the chips to check if they were seated correctly, I only had only LED solid until I did an all clear then I got 4 flashing again.

The chips might be in the wrong location also.

As long as they're not in the wrong direction...

Check the Eprom capacities. Typically the Game is on a 27256 (some games use a 27512), System a 27512 and Support a 27128.

Let me know when your ready to send.

My support chip is correct.
Then I have two of the 27512, one in game and one in system.

I'm ready to send the .bin files.  Let me know where :)

I compared the SYSTEM & SUPPORT files, they're both good.

Burned the GAME file in a 27C512 Eprom and tested in my machine and it's good!

I have had Eproms that will read the program okay in a burner but will be erratic when on the CPU board. You might try a fresh Eprom.

Make sure the 3.6v NiMh battery is above 2.8 volts. Also check the area surrounding the battery for trace damage.

Also when you do the ALL CLEAR reset at power-up...hold all three reset buttons down for the 3-5 seconds. You may have a bad button.

Battery tests at 3.5v
No much corrosion.

Are the outer pair of batteries holes joined?
I mean the two on the positive side go together and the two on the negative?

There's trace damage on the left side in the photo where the battery was soldered in. Anywhere you see a black spot that's acid damage. You'll have to ohm out each trace from point to point.

Yes the two holes on each end are paired, for different size batteries.

Also once the battery has been reinstalled check the voltage on the RAM chip U45, there should be voltage measured between pins 14 and 28.

edit:
I looked at the damaged area by the negative end of the battery and TR17 and those traces are for the SDS outputs (not used), they shouldn't prevent the CPU from running. Any damage between the positive end of the battery and U24 will though.

I moved the battery to the outer negative point.  I was getting 1/2 the battery voltage from that trace.

I'm going to test the two points you mentioned now.

Now after a all clear it flashes the LED left and right, but no all solid like before.

I've got nothing on the door yet.

The LED's should strobe non-stop from left to right then back to left.
