DBV-200 Good Startup, lights on, no sucky sucky

Newb here so apologies if I say something stupid or miss key facts. 

I picked up a double peppers S+ that wasnt working and by reading this board and others I soldered in a new battery and got it all working.  SO MUCH FUN!!!
An addicting.  I want more. 

But for now Ive been struggling to get the bill validator working.  I have the PSR SP1271 which matches my chip.  I can mess with several settings and have tried many things to get the bill validator to work.  The lights are on.  You can hear the motors testing upon turning the machine on.  It just wont take up a bill at all.  Stick a fresh bill in an nothing happens.  No sounds.  No pull, nada.

In the machine settings I found setting 9 to enable the validator.  Its currently set to disabled and it will not allow be to enable it.  Its like stuck in disabled. 

I appreciate any direction from those whom have conquered this.

When you say you hear "motors testing," do you mean the reel motors or are you hearing the bill validator cycling?

Do you have a set chip and did you follow these instructions? (In the LOOK HERE FIRST for IGT S plus)

Hi - typically after a game change that involves the swap of a game chip or after a battery change you need to run the SET chip to re-activate the bill validator.
Instructions for this can be found on our home page, bottom right under Ricks Faqs.

The purpose of a SET chip is to tell the validator how many coins to give for a dollar. The S+ doesn't speak currency and simply compares whats dropped into the coin chute with the sample coin in the comparator, if they match you get a credit.

When your purchasing a SET chip also get yourself a CLEAR chip. Hopefully you never need to use the Clear but if your paying to have one shipped might as well get the other at the same time.
The Clear takes the machine back to factory.

Its the bill validator cycling.  Sounds like gears or a motor specific to that area.  I know I need to still clean this up.  Smells like ciggys, jack n cokes.  But seeing im unable to enable in the system menu Im leaning toward the chips you mentioned.

Ok so off to find a set chip and clear chip. 

It looks like many options.  How do I know which fits mine?  KEY17, 45, 31, CLEAR97?

For an S+ Its a SET chip.
Key Chips are for S2000

The correct SET chip will be specified in the PSR sheet.
You mentioned you had the PSR for the 1271 game chip.

With an update, they will take the newer bills up to 5, 10, 20 and 50 but not the 100's.

My a.i. is saying this is likely an s2000.  Can you confirm in the attachment?

I didnt know that about the bills.  It would mostly be friends and family putting in 1's.  Ill tackle any updating after I get it working/enabled.

The PSR notes Set chips 88, 89, 90, 91, 101, 102, 116, or 121.  Is there a best one?

Sounds like its co-pilot, Claude might be a better choice.

On your cabinet where the player tracking bar goes (just below the top glass) - an S2000 has two speakers.
The S2000 motherboard has SIMMS for sound etc this uses socketed Eproms.
a 1271 is a S+ Game Chip.

You sir have a S+ .....

The SET 90 is what I routinely use.
It also supports IGT progressives (Internal 5 Led display) that can replace the Progressive Sticker, along side a linked progressive.

So if a BV accepts $1 bills but nothing else it likely needs to be updated.
Or go find some 2003 or earlier bills on ebay.

NLG member RB Ronald Ball has the chips. After you set it to 91 and the denomination, use a $1 bill to test BV. It's most likely out of date to accept newer bills. The latest update for the DBV-200 for IGT ID023 , will accept new $10, $20, $50 and all old bills.

Got the SET15 and CLEAR chips as a set off ebay.  Ran the process.  I now have the validator display lit up telling me I can insert bills and it is now pulling the bills in.  I tried 1's from 2021 and 2013 and they all go in and then get spit out. 

Im leaning at now is the time to pull it all out and give it a cleaning and lube.  I can see junk on the rollers.  Its like when we used to have to clean old computer mice that had the ball.  Those rollers would get lint...

Solid game plan?  Q-tips, Alcohol, Dry Lube?

Before you start - check the dipswitches on the bottom of the head.
There are switches that turn on/off different denominations. At one point most of the casinos had $50's turned off and later other denominations - the casino official response was that they were unlucky.
The real reason is that someone had figured out how to make a few markings on $5 the bills to get the heads to think they were 50's.
This problem went away with the new money which has magnetic properties and additional sensors in the WBA series.
The S+ can't be upgraded to this level but you can get upgraded to new bills less the big head 100's.
Make sure your not in test mode etc.
There is also an option for protocol - there are two protocols that the S+ used and its possible that its set to the wrong one - funny enough the $1's work with either.
You should be able to do a forum search for DBV200 dip switches and get your answer back - and I am sure others will jump in here.

Secondly - Don't use alcohol on the optics - they will be blurred (and destroyed). Simply water and a qtip.
There is also a calibration card you can get. Basically it gets pulled in - something on the card triggers a calibration routine where it aligns the sensors to where the dots are etc.
Sometimes the belts age etc and calibration is necessary.

If this was me - I would opt to send the head off to one of the vendors who will either swap it out for an updated one that can accept all but the latest 100. They will test, calibrate and replace any worn belts.
Far less hassle than trying to clean it up yourself with unpredictable results.

Opened it all up and ya the belts look toast.   What are these vendors you speak of so I can research?

Anyone sell replacement belts if I decide to tackle myself?  I ran some basic searches and im not finding anyone selling these belts.

Think about it...if a $1 bill gets pulled in, that means the optics to start the motors, is good but the bill isn't either being read, or allowed to be accepted.
Not because the bill is bad...any embedded or chip-based firmware version should allow an acceptor to allow ones.
It's very possible the reason why the bill isn't being accepted is because your dip switches are not set correctly?
You need to tell us what your dip switches are set at to give you a better answer.

If your dip switches are set okay, then ripped up, old falling apart bad acceptor head belts will slip on the bill, causing erratic bill movement by which the optical readers on the circuit boards - aren't able to read the bill right.
If the circuit boards in the validator head cannot read the bill right, then it won't let the transport belts pull the bill further down towards the cashbox.
Instead, a signal is sent from the head's circuit boards out to the motors to go into reverse, and reject the bill back out of the head.

There are many other parts inside of a validator that need to be looked at in order to get them working correctly.
It's best for you to send the unit out to the pros for inspection, and a proper repair.

I offer service to repair, update, calibrate, and test the DBV-200, if you are interested. I don't know if there is new belts available for the DBV-200 head. Belts on the transport can cause bill acceptance issues as well.

Looks like all dip switches are set down toward the numbers and not up toward ON
