Can't get my Bettor TITO to work any more

I have a WMS bluebird 1 or 2 not sure.  It is a Dean Martin machine.  When I first got it, the bill validator was working and I was able to add credits by putting in bills.  Then I got a bettor TITO.  followed the instructions and I was able to add credits via the service button.  At some point, the bill validator died and I may have pressed the cash out button.  After that, my Tito would never add credits again. 

I have ram cleared and specified no printer, no validator, which is what Jim at bettor slots advised.  followed all the instructions to the letter.  Legacy bonusing is active, it will just not add credits.

Is it my settings?  does my Tito need to be flashed? do I need to get a new BV?  Please help.

Update:  got Tito@home. Still unable to add credits. Tried both commI and commII. Lights for com input:output blink on left of backpane and both lights on Tito on but still unable to add credits.

I don't think Jim at BettorSlots sells titos anymore. Not sure.

Jim at Bettorslots RETIRED quite some time ago. The business was sold to Gambler's Oasis.

I reached out to them while back and they didn't express any interest in offering tech support on NLG but I believe  they do on their website. And yes there's another member here making TITO at home devices. He is not affiliated in any way with Jim.

My BB1 TITO connected to comm port 1 failed after some years of use, I switched to comm port 2. It worked for several weeks and it died also. I had to replace the backplane, My other WMS machine never worked on comm port 1, but comm port 2 has continued to work.
Must be old age? I don't really know why they are failing.

Update:  Tito @home not working in either comm 1 or comm 2. I recently received and installed a new bill validator head unit. I specified type after clear/reinstall. Still no movement from bv. Will double check dip switch settings today. Attendant setup screen shows bill Val comm error.

I am thinking the backplane might be bad. Does anyone else think this could be the case?  I’ve already bought: Tito, bill Val head unit. I hate to just keep throwing money at it. If the experts here think replacing the backplane is the next logical step I will go for it….
