IGT S+ Double Wild Cherry Hand Pay Only

Whenever I win on a spin my candle starts flashing, enter coin is flashing and coins played is flashing. I don't receive any coins or credits for the win. The machine at this point is locked up. Turning the jack pot key resets everything and I can continue playing. I put in my denomination chip and set my machine to accept quarters, and that didn't change my problem. Prior to having this issue, I was battling a 65-3 error, but while working on resolving that issue I got a 43 error (Bad Reel). I replaced the reel sensor and that took care of the 43 error. So now I have my current problem, and I don't believe one problem has anything to do with the other, but I thought I would put it out there. Also, I want to mention that the 65-3 error never came back. Can it be my hopper is not recognized, or can it be set to Hand Pay? If so, how do I check this?

A handpay is generated when you exceed your hopper and/or credit limit.
Ie your hopper limit is 300coins and you hit a pay that exceeds 300 the machine goes into hand pay.
In a casino the attendent comes and validates the win, followed by the casino showgirl employees with the giant fake cheque for the PR photos.
The key is turned and generally speaking they then issue you a cheque or cash depending on the size of the actual win.
I keep suggesting that my wife perform this function in our home casino but so far that has only gotten me a sore back from sleeping on the lumpy couch.

In the home environment people will often set the hopper limit to 1 (or zero) if allowed in an attempt to make the machine as close to coinless as possible.

Other techniques include removing the sample coin so all coins are rejected, and using the set chip to put the machine at a $0.01c denomination so 100 credits are issued for a dollar. On the pay out people have cut a carboard slotted wheel and mounted that in their hopper. It spins and the slots on the slotted cardboard wheel pass by the hopper optic to simulate a coin passing - in which case the hopper limit is cranked up high so the machine is not interrupted by hand pays.

If you post your game chip number - we can provide you with the PSR for your chip that will detail the options to change the hopper limit.
You can pull your MPU to determine the game chip number (usually written on the chip) or on the bottom right of the NLG home page - there is Ricks FAQs and he outlines the sequence to get the machine to display both your Game Chip and Reel Chip numbers in the winner paid / coins paid window. Simply post that and we can provide the correct instructions.

With respect to your 65-3 error. These are often caused by a game change (game chip/reel chip swap) to older series chips or after a battery swap. Both cause a mismatch in the CMOS but once its cleared it goes away.  It could also be a failing chip but experience shows that is far less common a cause. If it hasen;t come back then I would not worry about it.

Regarding the hopper limit, 300 was the minimum it could be set at and I think that was through the 8 bit switch on the MPU. It's weird because I wasn't
making any changes prior to this happening.

As far as the problem with your wife I would recommend a fist full of dollar bills and if that doesn't resolve the problem you might have to step it up fives. Good Luck.

You are going to want to Navigate to Option 7, 1 and change the hopper limit.

I have attached SP1271.doc which is the IGT document of the various options and a Simplified guide that one of our members R273 put together that will help you navigate the menus.

Well, I did it! I now receive credits for any wins, no more hand pays. And I have sound while the reels are spinning. Bonus!

The instructions list took a while for me to understand, and now I feel somewhat comfortable with it. It was very confusing at first.
I do have one more issue I would like to run by you. My Bill Acceptor is not accepting bills. The yellow light on the front is lit and it does pull the bill all the way in. It holds it for about 2 or 3 seconds then spits it out. So, I checked my configuration, I went to page 0 option 9 and my value is set to 0, so this is telling me its not enabled. Then I read I need a Set chip to change this to a 1. Do you agree with this? And if so, where can I get a Set chip?

The PSR tells you which SET chips work.
Set 15 and Set 90 are your two best choices.

If you get into progressive jackpots the set 90 is needed to set them up but otherwise either will do for enabling the bill validator. Rick’s FAQ on the main page will show you how to use the Set chip.

Not that you have a need at the moment but if your getting a SET chip also get a Clear chip. This brings the machine back to factory. Usually the only time you need it is if your CMOS gets messed up due to a battery failure/change. Just handy to have around just in case. Who knows you might need it with your next machine.

Any of the vendors on the main page are good choices and members JIM and RB sell chips so you can PM them.

While the configuration seems to be indicating that it's not enabled, if you are in fact looking at the correct place, the yellow bezel will not light up and it will not attempt to pull in a bill if your validator is not enabled, so I believe your validator is in fact enabled.

When it holds the bill for a few seconds before spitting it out, does the "Insert Coin" lamp on the reel glass blink a few times?

For testing, please use only $1 bills in good condition to eliminate a few variables.
