Bill Validator Sudden Failure
« on: April 05, 2026, 06:04:42 pm »
I’ve got a Sizzling 7s Bonus machine that’s been working great after a few fixes. For a while it was taking a few dollar bills without any issues.

Normally when it powers on, it starts spinning or making a loud noise (the bill validator). It also used to do that every time a bill was inserted or when the cash box was put in or taken out.

All of a sudden it just stopped making noises and taking dollar bills.

I’ve tried cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and reseating the validator a few times to no avail. It is enabled in the config.

If anyone knows what could be wrong that would be great.

Thanks

// it is a DBV-200 //

Check the transport to see if anything is stuck in there and try re-seating the cashbox firmly.
Are there any messages on the blue VFD?

Since you have a DBV200, look on the left side between the two plugs, you should see two red LEDS , they should be on as soon as power is applied to the machine. This tells you the power supply mounted on the side of the metal housing is working. No red LEDS, power supply bad, or power to the power supply is not there.

If the power supply is bad I have replacements available .

Hope this helps
Jim

Stayouttadabunker: unfortunately I believe the display part of it is dead. Upon researching a lot more I found a vague pin out (which worked) and I was able to supply it power and data. Upon supplying it power it appears the microcontroller works due to 5v being spat out. There are no heating lines or any lights on the display part at all. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?  :hissyfit:

Jim: when I get back home to the machine I’ll make sure to check that  :thank_you:

I’m back at home with the machine now and believe I do see where the leds are that you’re talking about. They do not appear to be lit. I attached an image.

All the fuses are intact.

How would I go about solving this?

Update:
I pulled the power supply off of the bill validator and inspected it, and there is very clearly a leaky capacitor.
I do have a parts machine that was the savior to my other two, so I pulled the power supply off of that one (it has a DBV-145 and the connectors and labeling looks all relatively the same) and put it in the failed validator, to no luck.

I should add that when putting in the new power board and turning on the machine there was a big flash of green light immediately from the new supply.

I believe maybe my validator may be bad? Or did I make a mistake by swapping the supplies?

Attached are pictures of the parts

I believe Jim's power supply have a Brand new 5 amp power module installed. The ones you have are 35 years old and only 1.5 amps.. Your chasing your tail with those old power supplies.
