809-zzz bell questions

So i have the 5 coin multiplier and the bell was disconnected.  After reconnecting and hitting a 20 coin win the bell won't shut off until a coin is inserted. I've read that some machines were set up this way so a jackpot wouldn't be shown on the reels for the next player.  Not sure how to determine if this is the case or if something is sticking. If like to get it to stop after a payout,  but I'd this is stock so be it.

without the specific schematic for the machine, you have to look at how the bell is ringing and guess whether it looks factory.

the schematic is w-1046-891 - pretty much have to find the folks that bought the machine from union plaza and see if they have file cabinets full of schem packets.  Pretty unlikely.

one way they did the bell ringing on lightning games was a switch on the bar relay.  If the bell shuts up as soon as you drop a coin in, you've got a decent chance the bell is ringing when the bar relay is powered.

take a look at the 809-N schematic.  If you bar relay has a switch with yellow wire 30 and red wire 10-2 that's closed when the relay is powered, that's the bell.

if you disconnect the wire 30 and connect green/white wire 45 in its place, the bell will ring during all payouts.  Assuming your bar relay is on the reel mech, you can find wire 45 on the reel mech A-2 switch ... so add a wire from it to the bar relay switch blade that used to have wire 30 on it.

So looking at the a switch,  the green/ white and blue were shorting due to the metal tab sticking down. Made adjustments and still ringing after pay.  I'll dig into it some more later.

double wires mean that wire connects more than 2 things together, so you have a daisy chain.  The end spots in the chain have a single wire and all the rest have double wires.

to verify, stick paper between the contacts on the switch with the yellow and red wires.  The bell should only ring for a 7 and bar/5 win as those are handled via a different circuit thru the reel wiper boards.  On an 809-N, they actually cheated a bit and connected some wires of different colors together on the reel 1 wiper board to make that happen.  This was rarely done directly, but using a jumper to tie wires attached to different lugs together was a little more common.   

the docs don't say the wire colors connecting to the 100 and 200 lights, but they are connecting back to wire 45 on the payout relay switch eventually.

below is the reel wiring diagram for the 809-N and others.  It's not clear if the 10-2 wire is directly connected to whatever color is on the "200" lug or if there's even a different wire color on that lug.  100 and 200 aren't wire id codes, they are just labels connecting lugs to rivets.

the issue is the bar jackpot relay stays powered until a coin is dropped, so if ya walk away it rings forever. 

typically the bar jackpot (bars match) relay only powered for high payout bar wins, but on a lightning game with few pays, it powers for all single and mixed bar wins and doesn't power for 5/bar wins ... but they rang the bell for 5/bar wins differently.

there doesn't actually seem to be much purpose for the bar jackpot relay on a lightning game with your pay table ... they coulda easily handled the bell ringing with reel board wiring.  A game that had multiple kinds of bar and paid for mixed bars would use the bars match relay to switch on a higher pay.  e.g. mixed bars may pay 10 but something like matching single bars would pay 20, so the bars match relay picked which trace on the payout counter was powered.  The reason the relay is even in there is so they could build more-or-less the same machine for any 809 variant and hook up the relay differently depending on the pay table and game rules.

Very interesting stuff. Once again I'm in awe of your knowledge on these things.  I'll try what you suggested with removing the red wire from that switch and running the green/ white... after I try the paper trick. Will update later.

remove the yellow wire.

the red wires are going to the bell, so you need that.

if the green/white wire is on another switch on the jackpot relay and there's nothing on its mating switch, you can move the red wires to the mating switch ... then the bell rings whenever the payout relay is powered.
